    MicTray64 keylogger issue fixed in latest Conexant ISST Audio drivers?


    Does anyone know if the latest Conexant ISST Audio Driver, created 25 Jan 2019 and released by HP 12 Feb 2019 (as well as earlier updates) has REMOVED the accidental keylogger? I just bought a nice used HP Elitebook 840 G3 and downloaded the 12 Feb 2019 driver directly from HP (overwriting whatever was there) and checked that it Is in fact the one now shown in Device Manager, and installed today (Properties).

    I checked C:\Users\Public\ and there is NO MicTray.log

    Problem or not?

    That was back in 2017. HP resolved that issue as soon as news was released, to be able to damage control at that time.

    This is a used HP Elitebook 840 G3, a model introduced several years before 2017. However I checked and the v 1903 it is now running was installed on 04 July 2019. Does that mean that the audio driver was also updated? HP (automatic/ computerized) Support Assistant regularly insists or pushes driver updates.

    "That was then, this is now" and several weeks later (I bought it a few days ago), so regardless, the audio driver it's now running (see 1st post) was created 25 Jan and released by HP 12 Feb 2019 and downloaded and installed by me today.... and thus you concur that this Conexant driver does NOT have the keylogger, right? Anyway, born in St. Louis/MO, the "Show Me" state, I checked C:\Users\Public\ and there is NO MicTray.log.

    I had checked and in 2017 the resolution was an ongoing process with the endpoint unclear, why I asked ....

    Again. You are tslking about something that was resolved back in 2017 when it was announced. Has zero to do with how old the hardware is.

    Of course. The following is for general reference only, for other readers:

    There are TWO lower/early date limits, the earliest being date of mfg, which is loosely related to purchase date which must be later, though probably not much more than a year since this is a top model BUSINESS laptop (I bought it used from the authorized BUSINESS repair/sales person in this country/city). That warranty, without further checking is 3 - 5 years, very likely 5 years in this case. Since the warranty expires at the end of 2021, the earliest purchase would be 2016, putting it before the 2017 debacle. The latest (if it has a 3 year warranty) would 2018. So it is quite possibly made after 2017.

    Next, and to the point you made, the next lower limit above that is when the driver was updated; i.e., it is entirely possible that the audio driver was NEVER updated before I now bought it. And THAT could mean it was still running an audio driver created and installed in 2017 .... and THIS is definitely one of the affected models!

    So by updating the audio driver yesterday and ensuring there is NO MicTray keylogger running in C:\Users\Public\ .... I am fairly sure it is so, "fairly" since NOTHING in this world is 100.00% sure, esp. w.r.t. IT! (am a degreed physicist + engineer and was married to the Testing Group Leader at MS/Redmond with 40 men under her, am well aware of inherent coding issues with millions of lines of code, and actually helped her get her IT/CS degree from the University of Washington).

    Thank you for your relevant input (am only further clarifying).
