need to change "wave" volume for old XP program

I have a program called nightowl view that displays my security cameras video plus sound. The sound worked once but I can't get it to work again. When I look at the win10 volume mixer, it's there and on startup the volume is at 0. Moving the slider up does not help, and for some strange reason, this program doesn't have a volume control, only a mute button.

On XP, when this program runs, it too sometimes comes up with the volume off and in XP's volume mixer, it's the one called wave that is at zero. Changing wave to 100% restores the volume level of the program on XP.

I can't update this program as the vendor doesn't support it any longer. So, I was wondering if there's still something called "wave" in the sound system on windows 10 that I could change. In the volume mixer, on win10, I sometimes see the bottom of the nightowl program slider showing a bit of activity, even though that slider is at 100%, so I think this program still thinks the volume is set lower.

    Suggest moving to Blue Iris.

Is there a free version of that, the webpage says it $70 and $30/year afterwards, as I have 8 cameras. I only paid $90 for the dvr, which is a nightowl X100-DVR8. Would that software even support my dvr? I can get sound on live with an internet explorer plugin, but it's not good for looking and listening to recorded video.

My current workaround is to run it in a vmware XP vm run on win10, which works, but I'm trying to move everything I still use XP for, as it's a bit dangerous to use.

Nope on not free. As for your DVR, Blue Iris acts as the DVR. Audio is not a necessity for using a camera for securitynd such.

I see, so it would need to access the full network stream of my 8 cameras 24/7 which would require I have a computer on 24/7 and send the video and audio over the local lan.

Until one has audio on security footage, one might not appreciate its value. For example, I have video and audio proof of the snarky ups driver who didn't like me refusing delivery on an Amazon package that I had cancelled. And today I heard a large bang outside my house and I wanted to see what it was. I narrowed in on the sound/time - it was a huge truck that ignored the speed bump outside my house.

Anyway, I just would like to be able to retire my XP virtual machine, as there are only a few remaining programs I haven't been able to fully port to windows 10. This nightowl program is one of 3 that are left.

    Thanks for your suggestion.
