    NO Sound

We have been making a lot of changes on my Windows 10 PC to get hdml working the way it should. Some where along the line, I have lost all sound except the little beep when booting up Windows.

There is NO sound with or without the hdml cable connected. I thought maybe we had killed the speakers, so I hooked up a known good set of speakers and had the results.

I thought somewhere there a way to test speakers, but I have not found that. I saw where to test a microphone but not speakers. I have a video I can play or music to test for sound.

If anyone has clue how to reset the sound I would really appreciate the input.
    Thanks

Check the sound playback device. If you are using the PC sound card and speakers connected to the PC, "Speakers" need to be set as the default audio playback device. If you are using HDMI Windows will automatically set HDMI as the default audio playback device and that will cause no speaker sound. See screenshot of Settings/Sound setup.

I use HDMI for my monitor but regular PC sound so I have the HDMI audio (AMD HD Audio in my case) disabled in the device manager. Windows will not automatically switch sound devices with it disabled.

Speakers (High Definition Audio Device), from you screenshots is what needs to be set if you want to use the PC sound card and connect speakers to the speaker out jack.

When the bdhi is NOT connected notice that the (High Definition Audio Device) is the one selected. It does NOT seem to matter which is selected, there is NO sound from either the tv or the speakers attached to the PC.

The speakers are connected to the light green port on the PC back. That is the same as when I did have sound and is the same connection as the speakers on my Windows 7 PC.

Is there any way to test sound without playing movie or an MP3 file?

If you are using HDMI to the TV then select the Intel display audio.

One other problem is the "Recording" device. It shouldn't have a problem with playing audio, but most programs use "Stereo Mix" as the source. You only have the Windows Installed basic function "High Definition Audio" for your PC sound and this does not have Stereo Mix. Thus this MIGHT be complicating things. If your PC sound hardware is compatible, install the hardware vendor's driver (it has to be at least Win 8.1 compatible) and see if you then can set Stereo Mix as the default recording device.

BTW, update "My Computer" with the hardware spec's. Helps us to try and help you.

First lets say this: Two weeks ago I had sound. One week ago I did NOT have sound.

I have not changed any settings for the sound cards that are on my mother board or tv. Something else has changed and I have no clue as to what that could be.

I am not sure why anyone should have a problem with bdhi, but Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has done something that causes some people (NOT ALL) problems when they try to use bdhi.

This site is the only place I know to get help. Anyone know of any other place?

    Thanks

Dang I finally found the problem. I had selected the sound output to be the Microphone and NOT the speakers. I have no idea how that got changed but it did.

    Wipes sweat off my brow
    Thanks everyone for suggestions.
