You seem to have a missing entry in the features list, there should be a + with Windows Media Player tick box. Unless you have some corporate version of Windows 10 with restrictions of some sort.

It is your Media player that does not play Audio CDs, these are Data discs not files.

Mine shows correctly as in post #9 that is how File Explorer represents those CD Audio data Tracks with WMP as default.

On my Laptop, with 5 listed Music players.
Windows Media Player, IrfanView(with plugins) plays the Audio CDs, but not VLC Player(apps version), Toshiba Media Player, Groove Music.

I don't have iTunes. That you will have to check.

Groove Music is in the MS Store(free as you would expect), should be showing as Installed, but of no use in this case.

This may not be what you're looking for, but I would highly recommend Foobar2000 for almost any audio playback and converting related stuff. Also on that page, scroll down to the Free Encoder Pack and get that so you have all the encoders (mp3, ogg, flac, etc.) built right in to Foobar itself.

It can be set as default CD player, rip CDs, convert via right click > convert, to many formats of your choosing, and is a damned nice audio player in the first place.

It can be made to look any way you like, I like mine simple, like so:

    Try
Restore Default File Type Associations in Windows 10
    and see
    AudioCD
    (second item)

Also please post a screenshot like this:

    Note this section:
Where is Windows Media Player in Windows 10? >> Winhelponline
    Windows Media Player Not Listed?
    Windows N and KN Editions
If the Optional Features window doesn’t list Media Features/Windows Media Player and the file wmplayer.exe doesn’t exist, then you’re probably using Windows N, or KN Edition. Windows N (for Europe) and KN (South Korea) variations don’t have media features included by default, due to competition law rulings in both countries. Due to the 2004 rulings, Microsoft had to maintain separate Windows versions for these markets.
Yet you seem to say that everything once worked, again suggesting this doesn't apply in your case.

Out of curiosity, please advise if the exe for WMP exists:
Windows Media Player can be accessed by clicking Start, All apps, Windows Media Player. If Windows Media Player shortcut is not available in the list, then check out if the file WMPlayer.exe exists under the Windows Media Player folder in the Program Files directory. Or press WinKey + R to bring up the Run dialog, and type:

    C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe

If it says “Windows cannot find wmplayer.exe” then Windows Media Player package may not have been installed.
    You could try:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53356
    - which whilst written with Windows N in mind, appears to be applicable to Win 10 in general.

    Try3:
I'll take a look at the tutorial you linked to & thanks for asking the author about my situation.

    Helmut:
Yes, the Windows Media Player entry is missing from the features list, I do not know why. I have an full 10 Pro 64Bit OS that's fully activated.
I forgot IrfanView could play audio CDs as well, thanks for reminding me. I just checked & IrfanView IS playing my CDs just fine! So perhaps it's something amiss in iTunes & VLC.

    dalchina:
I've searched the whole computer for Windows Media Player, WMP, Media Player; but Windows Media Player is nowhere to be found.

Dalchina; I tried restoring the file types, but that didn't work for me.
Here is the screenshot you asked for. Yes, I know mine is not updated just yet, I was planning to get that done just after I .mp3'd some of my CDs; but then I found out this problem was happening.

Suggest you do the simple thing- an im-place upgrade repair install of 1803 which keeps all progs and most data or update to 1809 or 1903.

An iso for the first can be realiy downloaded e.g. using Heidoc's Windows iso downloader.

Sorry for the delayed response, dealing w/a few family medical ailments.

While trying to figure out the problem w/iTunes, I stumbled across a few other small problems. So since I do want to update my comfuser, I'm going to wipe the drive & start fresh.
Now here's my question, will I have a problem w/activating 10 again? As shown before, my system IS activated right now & this was done through the free upgrade from 7 to 10, so it should activate again after I wipe & reinstall; correct?

I have installed Foobar & it's working good for me, except for 1 point I can't figure out.
I'm using Foobar v1.4.6, but when I want to rip a CD to MP3 files, I end up doing all the tagging manually.
In Foobar, I click File>Open Audio CD & choose Rip, but this is what I get:

I never use it for ripping CDs, I don't rip CDs, and am on Linux more than Windows these days, but maybe this will help? From your screenshot, it looks like you already have this and it is just not finding any tags in the database?

    Some Info

    Optional components

The 'Information lookup' section will be grayed out if a suitable metadata lookup component isn't installed. Although there are several components for looking up metadata in external databases in order to tag existing files, presently there's only one such component which works in the Rip Audio CD interface for naming and tagging files as they're being ripped:

    • freedb tagger - This is provided via foo_freedb2.dll in the components subfolder of the foobar2000 program folder. It is only distributed in the foobar2000 installer app, so you have to re-run the installer and select it in the optional features. Reinstalling should be safe; all your settings will be preserved.

Windows 10 pro does come with media player but when i installed it it gave me a option to install media player components, not sure if this is because i once had a pro pack for media player stuff, but i checked it and it installed it along with windows, not sure if all pro versions are like this but i to came from a different windows version when i first update windows 8. but if your did say that would you like to install media player components then maybe you missed that step?. if not i don't no why yours would not have it. or maybe its because i had a pro pack thing back in the day i bought for windows 8 not sure.
