    Sound/comp issues, stuttering static etc

I've been having an issue for a week or so now involving my sound. The issue is static and popping noise with my computer lagging at times. It happens most when I'm loading something or downloading something otherwise it happens at random. I did a LatancyMon which I attached. I did notice my File Explorer wasn't responding last night or this morning but seems to be ok now.

I updated my graphics driver which did nothing. I also tried disabling Port Scan on BitDefender but it did nothing. The health status of my SSD which has the OS is "Good". I went into Device Manager and tried to update drivers for all audio devices and they are all up to date.
My motherboard is a ASUS Maximus VII Hero which has no recent Bios updates.

Hi, sadly the forum does not require you to quote your Windows build so we have to ask time and again.
    Windows key +r, winver

If you have upgraded to build 1903, quite a number of users are experiencing a similar problem- please feel free to search the forum. E.g. stutter crackle pop - a bit like Rice Crispies cereal. (Snap, crackle, pop).

Some have elected to revert to build 1809 via the 'go back to previous' build option.

Diagnosis of the above can be technical and time consuming.

Please have a look at the good number of threads on stutter, crackle for examples including the various approaches and ideas, and sometimes solutions.

The original version of 1903 upgrade caused dropouts and Resplendence Latency Mon to show hits and problems. However, the recently released KB4501375 has fixed the problem.

I have an ASUS ROG Maximums Hero VIII motherboard and it fixed my problems for my recording studio with my desktop and it also fixed the same problem on a Dell laptop.

However, I don't know that this will fix static and popping noise. Another user reported the KB update also fixed video processing problems caused by the initial 1903 version.

Note: the currently available for downloading and updating version of 1903 has the KB incorporated into it. The updated Build number is 18362.207

Thanks for the reply, the version I'm using is 1803 (OS Build 17134.829). I'll have to look more into the threads, so far I didn't see much in terms of answers but I may have overlooked something.

Hey thanks for the reply! The current Build I'm using is 1803 (OS Build 17134.829). Maybe I should try updating it? Not sure why mine is so far behind. Thinking back I think I did have an update that installed around the time this started to happen.

One example: a user upgraded from one build to 180x (I forget which). Experienced stutter. Using technical analysis, had to take a Windows driver from the previous build and use that.

Each situation may be different and require different solutions- as you say, look thru the threads where you will find the tools used and maybe some ideas.

As noted by dalchina the causes/fixes vary for popping and crackling. The only exception is Wi-Fi is a known cause for many.
However, popping/crackling has been less of a problelm in Win10 than it was with older Windows versions.

I've found NVIDIA video will cause Latency Mon spikes where AMD Radeon video normally does not. This also relates to dropouts (could be referred to as popping, etc). Most users for audio recording, including myself, use Radeon video rather than NVIDIA because of that. I recently did field testing of a new Dell G7 gaming laptop and it had NVIDIA video (and the Intel CPU video). With the NVIDIA enabled and used Latency Mon showed problems with audio (and I had dropouts on test recordings) and with NVIDIA disabled and using the Intel CPU Video there were no problems.

Ok well I will update this thread as I troubleshoot. I just upgraded to the most recent Win10 Build so will see if I have issues.
