this is driving me crazy. Got the Nahimic finally working few weeks ago on my ASROCK B550M board and now this

does that mean I need to go to Microsft drivers catalog and update the Realtek audio drivers from there?

I tried to update drivers in device Mgr but it says Sound drivers are up to date

its really so annoying to deal with these new UAD things

That setting is missing from most newer drivers on most newer motherboards. No idea why.

With driver HDA 6.0.8978.1, on my ASRock B450 it is missing, and I thought it was on all boards with all the newer drivers. It is still there if I use an old driver 6.0.1.8328 on this board, so it is not an actual hardware limitation, it's the driver. However with the same 6.0.8978.1 driver on my older Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P Rev 2, the setting is still there, so not just the driver, go figure.

Anyway, depending on mainboard + driver version, it is simply not going to be there, sadly. The only solution I found was to use an old driver.
I see. I will try getting an older driver then. Or maybe I can get some kind of USB splitter to manually split the speakers and headphones. It's weird they aren't separate by default though.

He did NOT actually used the older driver as the older driver has a security vulnerability.

Correct (currently). I have a USB headset I usually use instead, but if I did want to plug a standard set into my front outputs, I would and have used the old 6.0.1.8328 driver, security be damned.

your Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro board uses UAD drivers, geko95gek (latest available for that board listed is 8945.1)
the 161Mb cab package of 8960.1 is a legacy HDA (non-UAD) FFxx driver - different format than a UAD driver.

there's also a v6.0.8963.1 Realtek UAD driver available from Gigabyte's web site although that was written for Gigabyte Aorus/Aero laptops but 8963.1 also worked with my old Gigabyte board with HWID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182"
    Hello, thanks for your reply!

Sorry but the 8945.1 driver you mention doesn't work for me. Even though it appears installed and Device Manager says "Device is functioning properly" it clearly isnt because test tone cannot be played and every audio program fails to play anything.

ALC1200 is so problematic with drivers. Not even the ones from the Gigabyte support site are working, and I tried reverting to 8881.1 that was working but now doesn't. Nothing works.

I've resorted to using an external amp.

EDIT: Ok somehow I got the 8881.1 driver working again! I used the 8945.1 Realtek package to uninstall itself, it got stuck in a loop where after each reboot it would just uninstall the driver and ask to reboot again. So, after 3 tries I gave up and after it uninstalled again I didin't reboot but instead went into Device Manager and clicked "Scan for Hardware Changes". The system detected sound card and installed the 8881.1 driver again automatically. Then I opened the Realtek Audio Console and behold the audio is back! Not sure if it will persist after I start my PC next time but I'll enjoy it for now. What a mare! Never ever have I had so much trouble getting sound to play. Realtek's piss poor driver ethics have gotten way worse over the years.

The link for 6.0.8978 simply redirects to the MUC (Microsoft Update Catalog), so it's safe. While the other link is for an Unofficial driver. It's also safe.
