Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [2]

Thanks Cliff I had seen you mention a "sway" at one point , but at the time I didn't have anything that used DCH Drivers , so I did not investigate further , so I appreciate you reposting this.
Support, once I talked to them, ( had to google around for a phone number - what you say? i know....) , He went through the basics but then just decided I needed a Factory restore when nothing worked, which of course didn't work, since the Recovery wasn't enabled, I found out later myself, so reenabled it and pointed windows to the correct partition ( Thanks 10Forums) and was able to do a Factory Reset which actually installed 2004, it came with 1909 so that surprised me, so 2004 must of updated the recovery ( and disabled it?) when it installed --- 2004 took 5 hours ! - when I 1st turn it on....wow.
I didn't notice the Sound issue at 1st as i was using my Bluetooth headphones and it was only when their battery died I noticed there was no Windows Startup Sound etc but the Asus Bios "Ti-dar" noise did, so I knew the speakers worked, just not in Windows.
Thanks again I will give this a whirl and post back with any News....hopefully later this weekend....I'm working though....

Guys does anyone know which driver i should use for ASRock 980de3/u3s3 ?
I'm currently on 6.0.1.7560 but i'd like to get the latest one for the MOBO. I just don't know which is the latest one and where to download it from.

In other words, it says that although the inf file might be there,
it cannot be used for installation of the driver as it doesn't contain the complete audio device HWID.
3 options:
- Stay with the Microsoft driver
- Install the Realtek driver provided by ASUS (and don't mess with any SST ones) or
- Start downloading and testing drivers from Microsoft Update Catalog, hoping to get one that contains your HWID (quite cumbersome and with questionable results)
Dimitri,
Thank you for the time you spent looking into this for me. For what it's worth, it hasn't been a waste of time because you've confirmed the brick wall I'd been running into. It's just a shame under Win XP the whole system worked flawlessly and the only drawbacks were the increasing number of sites and programs that refused to cooperate. The trade off seems to be I can now visit any site and run most programs but at the expense of audio. In the end then it's not just an update of an operating system but it has to be preceded by a new computer :-(

The Best candidate so far is 8960.1 and 8996.1

Can anyone explain why one would toggle between Peformance, Powerful and Extreme in Realtek Console?
I am using Mokichu's UAD driver 6.0.8996.1 for ASUS RTK mobo
Cheers

It is the same reason why when you put gas in your car, you have 3 choices of gas at the gas station.
99% of cars are designed to use the cheapest gas. 99% of the consumer headphones are designed to use the least amount of amplification (because most are used with phones and laptops so battery requirements needs to be small).
But once in a while, somebody is going to drive a Lamborghini to the gas station and require premium gas. Same thing for headphone amplification, once in a while somebody is going to buy an "audiophile" headphone that requires more "juice".

Not ever having experience with that board, it appears old enough to use the good old generic realtek drivers without any third party nonsense (no Nahimic/creative, etc.). That is a good thing IMO! Windows 10 x64 I assume?
Find one about 128-141 MB (from the links below) that only mentions Realtek in the description (click for details popup), not Asus or some Laptop maker. If the newest Windows mentioned is "Fall Creators" or something, it's fine to use it on later versions too.
1. 6.0.8940.1 from Windows Update Catalog if you want the newest-ish full featured generic driver, but missing one possibly important feature...see #2.
2. 6.0.1.8328 from Windows Update Catalog (132.9 MB Fall Creators Update and Later has worked well for me) if you need to have headphones and an output to a receiver/amp/computer speakers plugged in at the same time and want to be able switch between them without having to unplug the headphones when not in use. The older drivers had an option called "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously" that does this, that is missing completely from newer drivers. They didn't both actually play the audio simultaneously, but you could select the default device between them, where now when you plug in headphones, it becomes the same device and the rear/other output is disabled until you unplug the headphones.
If you only plug in one output, I'd just go for the newer driver. There was some security fix that was done after the 85xx? 86xx? versions.

But once in a while, somebody is going to drive a Lamborghini to the gas station and require premium gas.
...and as an ex-gasoline tanker driver, I can tell you that 95% of the time they are going to pay for "premium" gas, but get good old 87 octane! Those dirty station owners always over order low octane by like 6000 gallons "accidentally" and have you put it in a 9-10,000? (I forget, my truck was 9000) gallon premium tank instead. I charged a "premium" for the "service". Come to think of it, I do not even recall ever having hauled mid grade gas. Is it a mix of the two or something?
PSA: Also, NEVER fill your car at a station where the tanker is still there or recently left. They totally stir up all the crud, water, and Jimmy Hoffa from the bottom of the tank, and there is a lot, and into your car it goes! It should be illegal to use a tank for at least an hour after refilling.
Sorry, way off topic.

What about right now with the pandemic? I know people who gassed up their cars in March when the pandemic started and still have gas in the car 5 months later. That's probably not good for the engine when they use their cars.

When I get gas I just open the windows. (sorry couldn't help myself - I tell that to my wife too ;-)
