Finally switched myself to UAD, was actually rather painless. And the [ugly] uwp app has everything expected. So everything is working cool.

8813(uad) sounds distinctly better than 8799(hda), great clearer definition and punch here.

    Cheers

What are the differences between UAD and HDA? I know UAD is much smaller, surely there must be more to it than that? Does it improve boot time or something?

this one is in another forum though. 8810 HDA is not WHQL though (production of HDA drivers has slowed down lately; Realtek seems to be making only new WHQL certified UAD drivers like 8809 WHQL)

you could try the generic 6.0.8787.1 UAD driver from here. (or use this "repacked" 8787 generic UAD driver for easy installation).

btw - 6.0.8688.1 for your Gigabyte board is a UAD driver while the 8454_PG466 (6.0.1.8454) version is the legacy HDA driver ; two different driver formats
Thank you! :) By generic 6.0.8787.1 UAD driver do you mean 8787.1_HDA_UAD_Win10_RS3_RS4_RS5_19H1_X64_WHQL.zip ?

ROG forums now has UAD 8810 for ROG/TUF/PRIME boards, also with DTS.

It is a purely security move.

Microsoft mandating new drivers to contain only the driver itself (and not the extra fluff like the EQ and environment effect) --- allows Microsoft to approve whql drivers faster and push them out automatically via Windows update.

UAD drivers were designed for brand new machines built from late 2017 and later (but could also be used on older machines if a generic UAD driver is available, Andromedoh.

Usually Realtek UAD drivers are OEM or manufacturer specifc but on some occasions an official "generic" UAD driver like 8787.1 is available [not counting the "homebrew" ones made by pal1000 from github]. note that UAD drivers are in 64bit/x64 only form and require minimum Win10 build 15063 (v1703 Creators Update) and will not appear in 32bit/x86 format.

Realtek HDA or nonUAD drivers come in both 32bit (x86) & 64bit (x64) formats and work for many systems that contain onboard Realtek audio chips (old & new). If Realtek HDX driver setup can't find a specific HWID in many of the INF files, it will default or fallback to using HDARt.INF (for 32bit) & HDXRT.INF (for 64bit) to install the drivers. now HDA drivers will work for many different versions of Windows, even with the RTM/v1507 version of Windows 10 [both 32bit & 64bit versions]. those using Win10 v1607 (LTSB 2016) & earlier will have to use HDA drivers.

yes polik1. by the way I also found a v6.0.8773.1 UAD Gigabyte driver from Gigabyte's web site listed for X299X series motherboards and may work for your board.

You are just making the explanation over complicated.

Microsoft wanted to test and certify minimal hardware drivers (whether they be audio drivers or graphics drivers) so that they can push them out via windows update faster to patch bugs and security vulnerabilities. Microsoft calls the new driver "DCH driver" and Realtek's UAD driver is a "DCH driver".

It doesn't make your graphics card run faster. It doesn't make your audio card sound better. What you are getting is more frequent bug fixes on your drivers.

Nahimic released a new version for the old Nahimic 2

The version is 2.5.34 from nonmember 2018 Updates Archive - Nahimic, still old from 2018

    Direct link: https://nahimic.s3.eu-west-2.amazona...mic+2.5.34.exe

The old version was 2.5.31 from April 2018.

Even this new old version doesn't fox the UAC warning, although I have informed Nahimic and they told me they are aware of the problem and working on a solution!

In my tests on my card, I am still not getting the Bass Boost that I used to have. Somehow I lost it,

What I don't get is, why there are so many builds that need bug fixes or what not? Audio chips have been around for many many years. You'd think at this point they would have their codebase at the point that they don't need to do updates anymore except for adding new OS support.

New CODEC chips and associated controls are coming out often so in most part drivers are updated just for them but also keep compatibility for older ones.
