    Hi and welcome to TenForums.

First things first, if you're happy with the operation of your sound device (i.e good sound for your taste), there's no need to mess around with the audio drivers.
On the other hand, if you want to use the latest/best driver (like a lot of us, in here do!), the only way to find the most suited one for your system is by trial and error.
To decide what HDA driver you need check this thread: Determine the HDA Realtek driver needed for your Audio
A good source for the latest driver is Github, used by many users in this forum.
    Releases . alanfox2000/realtek-hda-release . GitHub

Since your MB is not the most recent one, you'll probably better off with HDA drivers. But again, if you wanna try UAD drivers, you completely uninstall the HDA one and try a UAD driver to see if it works for you. Sound-wise the difference between the two technologies should be minimal, if any. Follow this guide, if you want to try it.

One final advice, for your sanity: Make a full system image, before starting to mess with drivers, so you can rollback if you're not happy with the results of your tests.

    Good luck.

And one last, thing.... HDA Driver 6.0.1.8648 is well tested and widely acceptable as one of the best sounding drivers for a lot of systems.
The more recent 6.0.8750.1, is a very good one too!
Awesome, thanks for all the info! All seems to make sense. I think I'm fairly happy with how it sounds but then again I've only ever used 7727 and haven't compared it to other drivers much. Alright, will definitely look into trying those two, thanks : )

If my Hardware ID can't be found in the INF files though, does that mean I can't install that driver and have to look for an earlier driver?

Another thing, I've installed Equalizer APO with HeSuVi, trying out different virtual surrounds/HRTFs in games etc. If I uninstall/reinstall/update my audio drivers, once I've decided on a driver, do I just need to open the Equalizer APO configurator and reapply to the audio device?

    Thanks again!

    You're most welcome!

Regarding your HardwareID, it should be present in an .inf file, if you try to install the driver with the appropriate integration for your system. Check which driver "type" you need to install by following the instructions in this thread Determine the HDA Realtek driver needed for your Audio

As for the Equalizer, my guess would be, that you most probably don't need to reinstall it. But as I don't have it installed, you can always try and if it doesn't work, you can always reinstall it.

So I ran that script in a powershell to figure out which drivers I need and it came up with this:

Realtek Audio Driver Integration log information

    Device HWID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_1458A0B2&REV_1000
    Audio CODEC: ALC0900

    Realtek Driver Version:
HDA Driver Integration: FF00 - no integration (Generic)

Does that sound right? Doesn't my board have an ALC1150 codec though? confused...
I even uninstalled everything including the Creative X-Fi software, went into safe mode, ran DDU and deleted Realtek and SoundBlaster, restarted, installed original 6.0.0.7227 drivers and creative sound blaster software and came up with the same thing.

I also noticed that when looking through the Driver Details manually (through Device Manager) I've got a few of all the "special" files in there. Either in system32 or syswow64 etc. Does that matter? I noticed the driver from the mobo site includes all these files in their folder too. It obviously didn't pick any of them up in the script, so maybe they're not being used?

So I did a Find in Files search in Notepad++ like I've seen somewhere before to search the inf files - in the 8750 drivers I found 2 instances where my Hardware ID was found. 1 in HDAMB3H.inf and 1 in HDXMB3H.inf. Is this enough to know these drivers are compatible with my device?
    Thanks :)

Also, because I'm running the latest Win 10 1903, do I need to look for a driver with 19H1 in the filename? Or it doesn't matter?

    - - - Updated - - -

I would also like to keep using the Creative X-FI MB3 software if possible, which my mobo/ALC1150 supports - just in case a later driver version disables support for this, if anyone knows. - Does this mean I should look for FF10 drivers or still FF00 as my Powershell script test suggests??

    Thanks again.

    EDIT:
Actually, it doesn't matter too much if I'm not able to use the X-Fi software, as I can just use HeSuVi for HRTF to headphones. Would still be nice to know which version is the cutoff for this feature, and still which version (FF00 or FF10) I should use? Thanks

    Hi Damon8.

That powershell script is somewhat flawed and needs improvement.

hardware ID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_1458A0B2" is listed in the HDXMB3H.inf file (according to a drp.su search) and you will definitely need an FF10 "Creative" HDA driver version, not FF00.
The Creative X-FI MB3 software will never work with FF00 drivers because the Creative integration DLL files (like MBAPO232.DLL, MBAPO264.DLL, etc.) are missing and they are only included in the FF10 versions. Also certain registry entries in the HDAMB3H.inf/HDXMB3H.inf files are missing in the FF00 versions but are included only in the FF10 versions

you can either use the latest FF10 driver (which is 6.0.8703.1) from Github [many folders bundled in that package so extract the FF10 folder only] or this 6.0.1.8454 HDA driver from Gigabyte (listed for a different board). both of these driver packages include the Creative integration DLL files.

though 6.0.1.8648 is not fully tested nor fully compatible with 1903/19H1. Only 6.0.8683.1 & higher are certified (or have full compatibility) with 1903

As I'm in no way a Realtek expert, any suggestion to fix the flaws of the script, are more than welcome, so we can help other people too.

You can pm me, if you wish.

Alright, awesome. That was my assumption too, thanks for the clarification! :) Thanks for the driver suggestions too. I mean, I'm still able to still use the original 7727 version even though that wouldn't be technically certified in the latest build, seems to work ok. If I let Windows automatically install, it installs 8036 apparently (which is latest on MCU for my HardwareID too). What would you recommend using then? Does 8703 (certified) sound as good as 8648 (which apparently sounds great)?

Actually, another option - I could just use the latest FF00 8750 drivers and forego X-Fi MB3 and uninstall that. Would that work? I use HeSuVi now anyway for virtual surround to headphones using an IRC HRTF preset, which should be superior to X-Fi MB3 SBX surround anyway. (I can always use SBX/GSX/CMSS-3D/OpenAL Soft visualizations options in HeSuVi too). Apart from that is there any benefit to having X-Fi MB3 installed??

Which version do I need to update my audio drivers on my laptop in sign? HDA? I don't have any UWP audio apps, only the old Realtek audio panel with pink icon in taskbar.

    8751.1

    Really clean and balanced sound
Still strong kick and punch for the bass, but the bass isn't so overbearing over the other levels

Absolutely the best driver in ages.

    Good test candidate:

I'm using 8755, and it is crisp and clear. But I didn't do a back to back test to see if it is better than anything previous to 8750, which seemed a bit ... distorted at higher volumes. But I'm also (finally!) using the UAD version instead of the standard HDA version, and that made a huge difference in the overall sound in the first place.
