Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [2]
-
I gave up on trying to install UADs.
To *resolve* my problem, I used the Asrock supplied HDA driver (FF10 v8454).
Then I extracted the latest HDA FF00 v8734, and using device manager updated the driver.
At some point HDA is going to be obsolete, and than I'm screwed if I cant get UADs to install properly...
Hey! I got the same onboard audio as you (ALC1220) - but on the ASRock Z370 extreme4 board. I guess they should be pretty much the same.
When I tried installing this driver: Realtek HD Audio (UAD) Drivers Version R2.8x (8710.1) WHQL (Asrock)
through the setup.exe it always installed as an HDA driver (it showed up as an Realtek High Definition Audio in the device manager) and not as the UAD driver (which would show up as Realtek(R) Audio).
But when I installed the official driver from the ASrock website Realtek high definition audio driver ver:8496_UAD_WHQL using setup.exe it installed correctly as the UAD driver.
After that I updated the driver through the device manager (Sound -> Realtek Audio -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver), navigated to the 8710 driver folder which then update the drives to 8710 and it still remained "Realtek Audio" = UAD.
After all this I installed & launched the Realtek Audio Console app through the win. store.
Still its weird that when I used the 8710 setup.exe it installed the HDA driver and when I used the 8496 setup.exe it installed the UAD driver which I could then manually update to the 8710 UAD....funny how that works.

C'mon Andy. People depend on you!!!
LOL, as you know it's not that easy.
As an aside I run a system that's not UAD compatible but a way round that has recently appeared and enables me to install the UAD variety.

Great news....
Next thing, we're expecting your feedback on driver quality!!
Still setting up, everything was changed because old driver was uninstalled first. As it is now, seems to be quieter although volume is right up.

There is no rush Mike.
Take your time and test as much as you want and when you're sure of its quality, just post it.

Andy, I know its not easy at all. I tried 8716 (always HDA) and since I couldn't decide if it's 100% better than 8648, I stayed with 8648!

Do you have Loudness EQ turned on?

Yes I do I also set equalizer to approximately what I had before, a half sine curve with low frequency to lowest and high to highest. That kinda suits my amplifier in speakers which has only one trimmer for tone. It's set to middle because bass is really strong on this one. I set it with Money by Pink Floyd. When that register opens, highs can probably brake a glass.

there are two versions of the 8710.1 UAD ASRock driver, imaldris (Station drivers site links to one of them)
8710 UAD SBC5 (this one has Creative UWP integration for SBX720, SBC5 = ASRock "gaming" boards like X570 Phantom Gaming X use this one) and 8710 UAD DTS (for DTS connect = ASRock "non-gaming" boards like your "Z370 Extreme4" mobo might use this one instead)
Edit: since there were 8734 FFxx HDA drivers available recently, I'll skip that one and wait for something closer to 8750 since I'm happy with using either 8703 HDA or 8720 HDA
