Again, the difference is not even subtle, it is huge and easily perceptible. Moreover, with the unofficial pal1000 installers you can switch from one driver to another in less than a minute, and appreciate the difference even easier and better. If you were here, I would challenge you to swap drivers between 8821, 8831, 8848, 8849, 8851, and in less than 30 seconds of listening I would tell you which one it is.
As I said earlier, I am constantly updating my UAD drivers via MUC --- on a rolling 6 weeks behind you people.

That means that when you people were debating whether 8405 is better than 8400, it only took me 6 weeks later to experience ZERO difference in sound. Then a month later, when you people were debating whether 8505 is better than 8500, it only took me 6 weeks later to experience ZERO difference in sound.

Same thing for 8605 vs 8600. Same thing for 8705 vs 8700. Same thing for 8805 vs 8800.

And I don't even use youtube videos to test sound because my computer comes with a dvd burner that I put my favorite CD in for testing.

Hello, i have a problem after updating to last version of windows. When i try to install Realtek HD Audio Manager, after the restart, Windows keep reinstalling the version that it wants. The problem is that i cant find the advanced tab when i open the sound settings and the sound is very low compared to before.
You have a B450 Aorus elite that Gigabyte has released UAD drivers --- it means that the individual audio enhancement tab no longer exist, you can only turn globally on and off via this tab.

The audio enhancements are individually selected in the Realtek Audio Console app that you download from the Microsoft Store.

As you will understand, I can not know what happens in your house or what you are able or not to differentiate. Then, in the healthy intention to avoid talking at cross-purposes, I will only tell you two things:

    1. Just because you can't distinguish one driver from the other, doesn't mean that others can't do it.

    2. If after all my explanations you still think that those of us who appreciate differences are suffering some kind of hallucination, I feel sorry for you. I've tried, I won't do it again. You are free to think whatever you want.

In a week, MUC will release 8821 and I can almost guarantee that I will not hear any difference vs 8816.

As I said earlier, the people most engaged in this debate also have a large variety of other audio enhancements. They have sonic studio, nahimic, dts, dd live... --- maybe 1 set of drivers turn one of them on or off (and suddenly you have 2 equalizers working at the same time).

And frankly Realtek pretty much has the monopoly in the audio chipset business --- it means that they can't care any less about improving sound quality. They are not going to throw engineers into improving it. Believing a monopoly is going to improve a product --- that's hallucination.

I also constantly update my realtek APO's via MUC when they become available (so 1.7.199.0 app with 11.0.6000.731 realtek audio effects component) --- but I also turned off all enhancements.

Realtek is throwing money and bodies into Cortana and Alexa stuff. The computer is sleeping but it still needs to listen to keywords like hey Alexa. Basically every single bug fix lists available when Dell/HP/Lenovo release realtek audio driver updates are about power management.

Interesting, on my 2.1 soundbar, I can hear the subwoofer first at 30Hz , on my Rig gaming headset, I can clearly hear the sub bass at 20Hz I has been around 28Hz for the headset before.

But also a couple of days ago The UWP ROG Realtek audio console and SonicStudio 3(hence Nahimic drivers) updated to.
It's crazy listening to the subwoofer test songs with so deep bass, the ears feel like they are plugged(like when a pplane takes off), because of the air pressure from the speaker vibrations.
    After 20Hz:

Whatever causes them to sound different may be technically complicated, but I don't care too much. I just try them and stick with the one that offers the best sound for my computer, so I can enjoy the music I like.

And precisely, if I came to this forum was because I was not happy with the sound of my computer, using the official driver 6.0.8703.1, from the gigabyte website for my motherboard. The sound was poor, veiled and not very detailed. Now, instead, my headphones sounds wonderfully good with 8849 or 8851.

Thank you very much MoKiChU for the technical explanation.

Anyway, in my case I use generic unofficial UAD from pal1000, which in theory comes with nothing additional, so the sound should only be influenced by RTKVHD64.sys and RTAIODAT.DAT. But, if you look only at 8848, 8849 and 8851, the difference in bass power from one to the other is big, easily noticeable and consistent in different attempts. How could so much difference be explained?

Of course I'm talking about not touching Realtek Audio Console when switching drivers, deactivating any kind of effect and with the equalizer absolutely flat. Or even uninstalling Realtek Audio console to avoid any doubt, and you can see exactly the same sound differences.

Well that goes back to one of my earlier posts when I said that the only way to see if you like the sound of a Realtek driver is to try it out on your system. It's only a matter of a few minutes to switch drivers so for me that's what users should do. Personal preference is what it's all about

Hey DooGie, and you know I agree with you. The debate comes because some people consider the differences to be just the product of some placebo effect, while the tests I do consistently show that the differences are there and they're big.

That's why I'm looking into what factors might influence making those differences more noticeable in some systems than in others
