I can't believe this topic is over 540 pages and still going. I feel compelled to admit I have not read every page. I'm also hoping my humble confession won't discourage a response.

I used the portable HWiNFO to find my hardware details...

    Audio Controller Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A3E&SUBSYS_83571043&REV_00
High Definition Audio Codec: RealTek ALC888
    Audio Codec Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_10438357&REV_1001

... but I can't find a matching subsystem in the MUC catalog. I used the results of a broad search to narrow down results,

    UNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_10438357
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...UBSYS_10438357

And I believe this is the most recent available for Dev 0888 but again the subsytem indicated for my hardware is not found.

    1809 DEV_0888 6.0.8849.1 (most recent only)
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...06.0.8849.1%20

And I'm not sure why I'd select one out of the four.

Currently, Windows 10 installed with plain vanilla High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft 10.0.17763.737 9/4/2019). Everything appears to be operational but there is no sound coming out the front headphone jack. If I plug a headset into the rear jack, I get decent enough sound but the volume won't shatter any window panes or even burst any ear drums.

I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled Realtek offerings but have been unable to make any headway.

Your insights and suggests are most welcome. Thank you.

The latest HDA driver found in MUC for v.1809 is 6.0.8874.1.
Have in mind that since you have an older board, you most probably have an HDA driver installed. In MUC the HDA drivers are the larger files (>130MB).

To verify that any driver downloaded from MUC can be installed in your system, follow the steps described in Option 3 in Determine the HDA Realtek driver needed for your Audio.

As a word of advice, before starting any driver update, create a full system image on an external drive, so you can rollback in case things go wrong or you're not satisfied with the new driver.

HDA FF03 version - MSI provides traditional Realtek HDA driver version v6.0.1. 8619 for B350 Tomahawk board (not UAD version). but you can try the v6.0.8967.1 HDA FF03 from Nahimic support and install Nahimic 2.5.36 audio enhancer software.

yeah maybe but I don't use MUC... the files in the .cab file don't come with an installer... for proper install...
as Realtek installer uninstalls first, reboots, installs, and reboots... its annoying but it works..
    well I found another generic FF00 HDA driver - 6.0.8947.1 HDA FF00 X64 released by Lenovo in early August 2020 for ThinkStation P520, P520c, P720, P920 PCs - generic HDXRT.inf & HDXSST.inf files included - like with 8940 FF00, it's also WHQL for 64bit Win10 only - also supports Win10 v2004

Hello Dimitri, and thank you for heading me in the right direction.

I followed your link and found both scripts (RealtekAudioDriverCompatibility.ps1 and RealtekAudioDriverIntegration.ps1) returned a message about "The audio device is not controlled by a ReakTek driver" message. I understand this is not unexpected as we are attempting to replace the installed Microsoft drivers. Anticipating the next step, I went...

    ddelo said:
... to the system's Manufacturer Support page and search for the Audio driver for your system. It doesn't matter if you find the latest version

    The asus package installed:

    (Microsoft 10.0.17763.1 8/24/2001)
    (Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 6.0.1.5859 5/23/2009)

The sound is scratchy and still only from the rear port. However, using device manager, I can now set both entries to Realtek (which I couldn't do before), or if microsoft must be there (tho I don't believe it does) then I can manually select the later (Microsoft 10.0.17763.737 9/4/2019) again. I have not changed anything yet.

With asus drivers present, I re-ran RealtekAudioDriverIntegration.ps1. This time the integration script confirmed the hardware id and codec mentioned in my first post and indicated hdxrt.inf is the installer for me. Unfortunately, however, RealtekAudioDriverCompatibility.ps1 reports the necessary .inf is not present in the 6.0.8874.1 cab file - when in fact it's there.

This is my progress so far. And before I continue and risk doing anything stupid (ie, irreversible) I thought I'd check back in to request the benefit of your experience.

    Thanks again.

PS. out of curiosity I attempted to install hdxrt.inf anyway. I got to the part about browsing the disk, I selected hdxrt.inf and was presented with a list of six "Realtek High Definition Audio" options that have no distinguishing marks between them, except the very last which has SST appended to it. I did not go further; how would I choose among them?

The HDXRT.inf is indeed there, but it doesn't contain your HWID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_10438357.
It just contains the generic part HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888 without your system specific SUBSYS_10438357.

That's the reason the RealtekAudioDriverCompatibility.ps1 fails to find the HDXRT.inf, as it doesn't only look for the .inf file name, but looks for the .inf file that contains the complete system HWID. In other words, it says that although the inf file might be there, it cannot be used for installation of the driver as it doesn't contain the complete audio device HWID.

Apparently this an abandoned motherboard and no recent audio driver has been implemented.

So I'm afraid that you won't be able to get a newer driver. A quick search in MUC for your specific system returns nothing.

To the best of my knowledge you have 3 options:
    1. Stay with the Microsoft driver
    2. Install the Realtek driver provided by ASUS (and don't mess with any SST ones) or
    3. Start downloading and testing drivers from Microsoft Update Catalog, hoping to get one that contains your HWID (quite cumbersome and with questionable results)

Hi Cliff, just wanted to ask some advice and for any pointers you wouldn't mind sharing, since I know you Use the Asus DCH Drivers and SS3 and SR3 , as I just gotten a new Asus Laptop - 2020 G732LWS, the 17" with 2070 Super and 300mhz panel- this week and had a few Issues, no audio at all in Windows , which Asus tech. couldn't help with it ( they did try for over an hour so all credit there... but managed to fixed the Recovery Environment myself , so have done a factory restore already, and have sound again but the Volume seems very low ( to meet) so I am thinking it must need SS3 setup properly with the graphic etc to help with that.

Thanks for any tip/advice in advance --- no rush , when you have a few minutes , I'd appreciate it.

Thanks DD , it is the sage...it's actually the 6th laptop in 18 months, but I've had to return the other 5 for one reason or the other....and this one did not start well ( no wonder i prefer desktops:) ) so my fingers are crossed especially with the no audio and then no Win 10 - Recovery found earlier this week, ( luckily or not I have a thread right here on 10 Forums, fixing the Recovery in win 10 way back in 1607 it think it was so I knew how to use reagentc ( surprised Asus tech. didn't ask about it though) , so I am really hoping it is a keeper :)

Yep , Cliff seem to know the ins and outs of SS3 and SR3, which i've never had before ( or DCH Drivers) so i am hoping he has some Tips.... ( or a new Tutorial for 10Forums )

God I hate the Laptop site pages, they give alot less information about the product than the Motherboard pages do.

For a good UAD and SS3 base install:
First you need to uninstall anything to do with Realtek sound drivers and Nahimic.
Best is to follow my instructions in my SWAY I created a while ago, based on MoKiChU' s instructions and some extra things to make sure every little bit is gone.
Every step needs to be followed.

Then you can get the latest driver form MoKiChU here: [DRIVERS] Realtek Audio (MB | Intel 2xx/3xx/4xx & AMD 3xx/4xx/5xx)

    Realtek Audio Control (UWP): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/re...ot:overviewtab

Sonic Radar III v3.13.8.0 (Optional) : https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9n42q5xmcxms (not needed unless you game with really good headphones.
