Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [2]

This is hilarious. I went to ASRock and downloaded the 8619_UAD_WHQL_Creative driver they have for my board...just out of curiosity on how that and the Creative stuff would work.

Result was something about "does not contain a driver for this hardware." I am guessing because I am running LTSB 1607 (HDA drivers only?). ASRock does not provide any HDA driver (even for Windows 7) for it though. So yeah, interesting.

Also interesting is the default Windows driver installs and shows the "Realtek High Definition Audio" entry in device manager, but shows no output devices in the Sound control panel so there is no audio. Then if I allow driver updates and search windows updates, it says the best driver is already installed.

So far I find the 8867 the best too.
Because after some testing, the sound quality is the exact same as when I use HDMI(Dolby) passthrough, from both my 2080 Ti and my 9900K's onboard graphics driver sound.

I have tested both with and without using effects.

I think, at least for digital audiophiles, this is the perfect neutral driver, with nothing boosted, or overdriven.

Totally agree with the above comments regarding version 8867.1. Over the past few weeks I've tried every Realtek driver release up to 8885.1 but still find 8867.1 the best sounding, for me it's just the most balanced sound
Hey Andy, I found the perfect term for this driver(8867 ), I've been looking for: Achromatic
    No sound coloration.
Meaning not too warm, too cool, too high or too much bass, and so on, another words no sound bias.

    1 to 1 signal input/output

    Windows 10 RS4 and later.

    ASRock > FAQ

The lesson here is that you pick the wrong motherboards to do what you want to do.

If you want to run Windows 10 LTSB and have a uncrippled realtek driver experience, buy a server motherboard with a realtek audio chipset.

    ASRock > FAQ
I'm not sure what your point is. That FAQ is about how to get the Realtek CP after installing a UAD driver. The driver ASRock provides for this board won't even install in the first place. My point is they don't even provide an HDA driver any more, and even for Windows 7 they list the UAD driver. It doesn't seem like that would work out well either.

Why would I buy a server board "for what I want to do". I don't want to run a server. The one I have (both of them) do exactly what I want them to do and have a "realtek audio chipset" ALC892. I just have to use an older (uncrippled) driver and find it odd that the driver ASRock provides is not even "for my hardware", and that they (Realtek) don't seem to make a newer driver that is just generic Realtek (uncrippled), without other third party dependencies. Also, I am pretty sure the Creative stuff that mine "supports" would not restore the separate front and rear audio outputs anyway. I did try it once and all it was is some redundant effects that are already included in the Realtek driver (the ASRock board doesn't strip them out like the MSI/Nahimic one did).

I'm perfectly satisfied to run the older, driver. I am just talking about it to give info if someone else has the same concerns I do with a similar configuration. It's just commentary, not a cry for help or a fix.

Ah..makes sense, but it does support Windows 7 and Windows 7 does not support UAD, correct? Anyway, I find the older HDA drivers to be just fine on LTSB 1607 and/or LTSC 1809. I just prefer the less 'bloated' 1607 version.

Achromatic, a nice word but more often used in the context of colours Cliff. I get your drift though

I actually uninstaled Realtek driver 8867 tonight and giving build 8888.1 a go. I'll see how it goes.

No issue installing 8888? I'm reluctant to keep using pal's drivers after 8886 failed me.

No problems at all Mooz, It's a good sounding driver but I'm not sure it's better than 8867 yet.
For problems with pal 1000's drivers just contact him on GitHub by clicking on issues at the top of the page and detail your problem. I've done it a couple of times and he's responded within a day.

Cool, confirmed now too, 8888 installed normally here! Whew.

Also confirmed from a couple others in the station-drivers thread that 8886 is surely bugged, causing a BSOD. Would have to be one I didn't skip, right? ha
