Did you link your hits to ntoskrln.exe aswell? 1903 seems like it's not even usable if you do audio recording and production. I went back to 1809 and the abnormal spikes are gone. No pops or crackles.

Yes, ntoskrnl.exe. That is also the main complaint/culprit mentioned on the gearslutz forum, too.

Its interesting (and disgusting) that a Microsoft employee (from the Washington DC area) is posting on the gearslutz forum thread that he doesn't see any problems.

I found this thread while searching on Google for a solution, i'm experiencing the same.
My sound was working fine yesterday, then Windows automatically updated to 1903 and my Realtek Drivers were gone and i have crackling/pop sounds in my right speaker now.

    Welcome to audio hell.

But seriously, 1903 is currently broken with audio due to this latency by ntoskrln. I highly recommend that you go back to 1809 and av How to rollback & uninstall Windows 10 May 2019 Update v1903

I did backup just in case too.

But feel free to experiment on 1903, i would love if you find out anything about this issue. Run latencyMon first and confirm that ntoskrln.exe is what your issue is. I suspect it is, but it could be something else you have, seeing that you lost your driver completely.

I have audio lag on my Z370 Gaming 5 ever since the May update. Gigabyte went as far as even removing the recommended v1903 driver they posted in June. You can only install the 1809 driver now.

I have lag on anything from youtube to plain vanilla .mp3 files. Whenever I play something there is no sound for 1-2 seconds. Never had this problem befgore.

Interesting. Is it through USB or Jacks? Actually I didn't hear severe audio lag like you are describing, maybe because I run audio converters or I didn't test it enough, but I heard occassional pops on any format used, and Youtube aswell. Did you link red latency to ntoskrln.exe? If so you probably have the same issue I had. I went back to 1809 and the spikes disappeared. If you need to do something critical , especially with audio/music, reverting back to 1809 should fix this until someone finds a solution.

    Using Jacks.

Yes I am seriously considering doing a restore to 1809 via Macrium Reflect of a full backup I made. I really don't feel like fresh installing Windows everytime a new "service pack" comes out, its a serious headache.

It takes me hours to setup everything the way I like it. Formatting every 6 months because of Windows is just plain annoying and disgusting. I never had this problem with Windows 7.

They should have finished the OS before releasing it. I'm not very pleased one bit.

I just installed KB4501375 on my Dell laptop that I use for on-site recordings. It has 1903 and was experiencing dropouts and latency mon hits. After installing KB4501375 I ran Latency Mon for 15 minutes and no hits. This sounds like progress as I've had dropout problems with this PC in the past. After I first got it (its a Dell gaming laptop with an 8th gen i5, M.2 SSD and 8GB RAM) I did some clean up and ran latency mon for 5 minutes and it was clean and I assumed it was OK. I did an on-site "live" recording of a band's show and about every 10 minutes I would get a dropout. I ran latency mon 10 minutes and it showed dropouts.

With KB4501375 installed (wi-fi disabled as I always do this when recording) it ran 15 minutes and no hits. See screenshot below. I'm not going to assume the problem is fixed, at least yet but its very promising.

Well, my audio & music PC doesn't use 1903 anymore so I can't test on it (I'm happy using 1809 for the moment), but that's good to hear! Keep us updated if you see any change. I will do some testing on my gaming machine - which also have slight audio stutters in games from ntoskrln.exe on 1903 -, but I haven't seen KB4501375 update pop up yet on it.

I still have 1809 on my desktop DAW system. I can test the Dell laptop as it is only used for on-site recordings and there is nothing scheduled for that. I have a dual boot on the Dell laptop, the original Dell image on an M.2 SSD and a second Win 10 for recording with minimal installation. I downloaded 1903 for the 2nd recording installation. After it installed, I tried to install the KB4501375 but it said that was already included in the 1903 upgrade.

If KB4501375 does not appear in the updates, here is the forum notice with direct download links.

EDIT/UPDATE: The Dell "recording" installation with the new 1903 has now run Latency Mon for 15 minutes and no hits!

I think you're right. My gaming machine doesn't experience crackles or pops anymore. I will wait a bit before I update my music PC just in case. But so far so good!
