Windows 10 startup sound & volume slider sound just stopped
Does anyone know why the Windows startup sound, or the volume slider ding would just suddenly stop?
I have a gaming build that's about two-years-old. It's based around an Asus Maximus IX Hero motherboard and it has a Creative SoundBlaster AE-5 sound card installed. There's some mysterious timing issue between the motherboard and the sound card that keeps the sound card from initializing when booting from a cold startup. One reboot will typically fix it and then it's good until I completely shutdown my computer again. I leave my computer running for days on end, so it really isn't that big a deal. I worked with Asus and Creative for weeks trying to fix the issue but eventually gave up because it just wasn't a big enough issue to worry with.
So, today I noticed I had no sound and I remembered that I had turned my computer off several days before, then booted the next morning, but had never went through my little second reboot procedure to make certain the sound card was initialized. I was wanting to watch some videos, so I rebooted. When it came up 30 seconds later, I pulled up the volume control and clicked on the little slider. No ding. So I rebooted again. Still nothing. I went through this process for what seemed like 137 times, but was probably only about four times. Finally, on a whim, I went to YouTube and started a video and discovered my sound was working perfectly, and probably had been since that first reboot. The problem was that I am no longer getting the Windows startup tune and I'm no longer getting the little ding when I click on the volume slider.
Does anyone have any idea why these would just suddenly stop?
Thanks.
