Now is there a registry key to make it fade out faster?
It stays on my desktop for about 5 seconds before slowly fading out, blocking anything under it.
Windows 10 volume bar on top left is huge

Now Messenger shows the same OSD
How annoying, I fixed the volume OSD from Chrome now when I've got the Win 10 Messenger app open I get the same volume OSD but from 'Messenger'/ These things always seems to be forced on us. Instead, just tell us about a new feature and I can figure out if I want it or not!
Does anyone know how to remove the OSD without closing the Win 10 Messenger App??

(It's a top level overlay, it hides the entire OSD, including Volume, on the Desktop and Lock Screen)
(Player Controls will still show on the right side of the Lock Screen)

FYI... In my case Chrome did not have a Media Session Service in about:flags.To disable it in Chrome, (and most Chrome variants), disable Media Session Service in about:flags ...

I've used this site to resolve many issues over the years to much success. Unfortunately, this did not work. In my case for some reason the OSD is disabled. It used to work when I first got this PC, but disappeared. I only have the basic volume OSD, and enabling the media control portion of it doesn't seem to work.

I was also having an issue with the browser ransoming the audio (taking full and exclusive control) from other apps like fullscreen games and stuff, which has been solved as well using this very same trick, once I've disabled it in all the installed browsers.
Someone give this guy a MEDAL!

It Is Back Again!
We disabled the 'media key handling' flag a long time ago, yet today in July 2021, it's back again.
We go back to chrome flags again and find that the feature is once again enabled by default. We once again disable it.
The gigantic overlay is now gone but guess what? The Volume Up/Down Slider is Still Shown!
Now what do we do to eliminate that unneeded little overlay?

In the current version of Edge, there is no such flag.
