No sound from laptop (toshiba p50) after driver update

A couple days ago, I tried to update the audio drivers and now I've no sound at all. Volume bars move, it shows as working but no sound comes out. the audio driver update I got from drivereasy killed the sound.

I've tried everything I've seen: rolled back the drivers, system restore to a previous point, uninstalling the drivers and restarting the laptop, reinstall audio driver from toshiba's website, disabling enchantments, changing format....

I even reinstalled the windows twice. Nothing I've tried helped. The volume bar shows working. But no sound. A while back I had my toshiba p50 amd graphic cards disabled. Could this have something to do with the problem ?

Could there be a simpler solution to this rather than taking it to a technician again ?

Obviously the driver is the problelm. Driver sites should be avoided as like this case they can have wrong drivers.

There is an option in the Device Manager to rollback to the previous driver on most. Give that a try.
Here is mine, I just upgraded to Win 10 V1903 and the driver I have is one I've had for several years and I don't have the rollback option.

That was the first thing I had tried, immediately rolled drivers back. Then tried everything I've seen suggested on web. Disabling enchantments, uninstall / reinstall the drivers, change sound format in playback, system restore.

Nothing worked and I finally re-installed win10...even after reinstalling OS, still same problem. No sound but volume bars seem working.

I believe problem stems from the fact that I had AMD graphics card disabled a while ago.. But don't know how/why as im tech illiterate.

Guess I might have to take it to toshiba center.

Also Check sound settings to see if your using the proper audio device. on the right, click on sound control panel (under related settings). Check what is your default device.

The AMD High Definition is for HDMI audio only, not regular PC audio.

If the "volume bars" are moving and no sound, that could be the wrong default audio playback device is selected. "Speakers" should be set as default audio playback device.

If you did a "clean" reinstall of Windows (reformat hard drive and install) and its still not working only one of two things. Either its disabled in the BIOS or there is a hardware problem. On a clean Windows install if the hardware sound driver is not available and its Win 10 compatible, Windows will install the generic, basic function, High Definition Audio Codec (driver).

what specific model of the Toshiba Satellite P50 laptop do you have, Osinard?
there are several kinds like P50-A, P50-B, P50-C (and some are touchscreen models)

ex. my dad's Toshiba Satellite C55Dt laptop came with pre-installed Win8.1 [the specific model is C55Dt-A5306] but is eligible for a Win10 upgrade, uses Realtek ALC269 audio. latest Realtek audio driver from the Toshiba/Dynabook web site is v6.0.1.8560.

since many of Toshiba laptops use Realtek HD audio, some use either Conexant audio or IDT audio, depending on specific models.

run Speccy or HWInfo64 to show hardware details of your Toshiba P50 laptop - it will list which sound/audio devices you have

It was a clean reinstall. I also think it might be BIOS, I don't believe its hardware issue becuase the audio went out right when I updated drivers. The laptop had its AMD card disabled like a month before.

It was toshiba P50 B117. I'll run those and try updates again but Im not hopeful. As I already tried updates.

I am using a Toshiba L50-A series originally Windows 8.1 which is slightly older than yours. In 5 years I have never installed a sound driver, now on the latest Windows 10 1903 and the sound still works and so does the Toshiba DTS extension.
Toshiba did supply a Windows 10 DTS which was installed, but no sound driver for Win 10. Also Toshiba system drivers, this was subsequently updated by Windows updates a while ago.

You will have to input more details than what you have given, but there are some drivers for Windows 10.
Most of those Toshiba ones are pointless, but I have installed some of those modules.

For a sound driver they just give Win 8.1 Realtek 6.0.1.7173 That is a bit newer than mine which works so should not be a problem. Very similar scenario as regards drivers.

I have never done a so-called "clean install", entirely Windows updates for 5 years. The latest 1903 version update a few days ago giving a new Intel iGPU driver.

Your message confirms my views on Driver updaters like the one mentioned, nothing but trouble.
