Sound Blaster ZxR install procedure for Windows 10?

I recently bought a Creative Sound Blaster ZxR. Reading this forum here, and others, I'm already beginning to regret that decision, LOL, as the driver situation is apparently dismal (so bad even, I can't believe no one sued them yet).

But now for my question, what are the best drivers for Windows 10, 64-bit (1903)? I keep reading about this or that person insisting to use some very old drivers, or not even use the Creative drivers at all (Sic!), and just let Windows take care of it. Othes are even suggesting using drivers for a different card. Or to install the 2017 Creative drivers, after all, but only in Safe Mode.

So, can anyone give me some pointers as to the best way to go about this? There's simply too much conflicting info out there.Thanks.

The Zx is fairly old now (I have one on old machine) and was superseded by the AE-5 which has better configuration software.

I just installed Creative's driver normally and it works fine.

Old?! I thought the ZxR was still their flagship card, and that the AE-5 was more for gaming!? Oh well, thx for the re-assurance, though. I really don't need fancy stuff: just excellent audio.

Looks like I was right: Creative makes shit software. I installed the drivers, have speaker set to 5.1, yet only the front speakers work. Even with just the Windows drivers, I set speakers to 5.1, and really only stereo plays. The rest is as if the speakers aren't even there.

EDIT: My Z906 system has a test-mode, and shows all speakers are connected properly.

LOL, it's solved. I was being an idiot. :) My new Z906 system has an 'effects' button, that I had apparently pressed during install. You need to disable all effects for 5.1 to go thru unhindered.

P.S. I may have to install the Creative bloatware, after all, though, as I want to listen thru my headphones too.
