Sound Blaster ZXR no sound through Optical output

Since i updated to Windows 10 1903 from 1809 my Creative Sound Blaster Z X R audio card has issues with sound output through Optical S/PDIF Out jack.

I set this through the Sound Blaster Pro Studio control panel under Cinematic Encoder to Dolby Digital Live to get sound output to my Logitech Z906 Speakers connected to it's optical input.

When i do this i receive this message and it will not allow me to set the encoder setting to either Dolby Digital Live or DTS connect. As far as i can see nothing else is using my audio device.

Never had this issue before this update always worked fine i read about issues with other Sound Blaster Z cards and Dolby Atmos with this update 1903.

Tried reinstalling software and drivers does nothing for it i am using the latest driver software for this card, works fine using 3.5mm jacks and RCA jacks for speakers but not optical anymore. As i am not even able to select this this Encoder in the control panel of Sound Blaster just the message shown and goes back to no Encoder.

I think Dolby Atmos not working is actually a documented bug of the 1903 release of Windows 10 (and very surprisingly, not Creative's fault, this time).

Also, out of mere curiosity, why go optical even? You have a very good card: bypassing its DAC's entirely seems kinda wasteful, unless you have an even better receiver (but then, why even get a sound card like this?).

Thanks for reply !! I knew about the Atmos issues with 1903. Googling this issues shows more with Windows 10 Fall Creators update causing similar issues with Sound Blaster cards ( not mine exactly).

I understand your point about going Optical (Digital) vs 6ch.(analog) this card optical is on the Daughter board

Considering i am using very good Speakers it does sound better to me through optical.

Movies especially even music. I just don't like the idea that it is there and i can't use it and would not want to go back to 1809 version which may solve it. I will keep researching.....thanks

So far i have not found a resolution to my problem ,done a lot of searching on the internet using different wording.

Assume anyone who looked at this post is as stumped as me on this.

Thanks to all who did look at this so far !!

Hopefully one day this issue can get resolved by Microsoft ( Windows update) or Creative ( updated drivers and software) .

    YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
My SB ZXR Optical Input has stopped working since the same update. I've been wracking my brain because I use it to pass my audio through to my analog amp. I use my TV to pass HDMI through to Optical out on the TV, and then in to the ZxR to be output through Analog. I've had to use... TV sound... to play PS4 and started using the PC's version of Netflix instead of the onboard version. Something is not working with Windows...

Sorry to hear ! Least i know it is not just me having this issue. Research come close but not exactly like my issues when googling. As said i am hoping Creative and or Microsoft come up with a resolve.Do you get the same message as i do shown in my original post The task requires exclusive use of your audio device ? What shows when i click either Dolby Digital Live or DTS connect.

Try this, as @boombastik told me, "uninstall the driver from device manager without deleting it and then restart your PC.
wait a little to finish the installation after the restart." Worked for me as a charm
