Sound works on computer but stopped working in speakers

This problem happened suddenly, speakers had been working fine on the computer and suddenly now I'm getting sound through the computer, not the speakers. It started after I pulled the speaker cord out to get at my ethernet slot. When I plugged the speakers back in, sound would not come through them.

I plugged my speakers into my laptop to check them and they work fine.

I have checked the sound settings and they seem fine.

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts. If I could get it louder, I could live with it, but my hearing isn't the best.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi margaretm and welcome to Tenforums.

Maybe you connected speakers to wrong connector. Try different one. Edit: should be green one.

I don't have a green one. I have pink, yellow and blue and it's connected to the blue, as always. I have tried the others, to no avail.

I don't have any options to change that. It's the only option there.

I would go to Lenovo site, download sound drivers (for your exact model) and reinstall drivers. When asked (by install app) to uninstall your current drivers say yes.

    Will try that, thank you.

ETA: Apparently, you have to pay to do that.

    Never heard of that

OK, click on Start and type control (Control panel will open) In Control panel type Realtek in search box. Realtek HD audio manager should show - start it

    Hope you have this installed...

Open it and on the right click (right click)) on green input - retask.. and select front speaker

    Control panel, or Realtek stuff?

One thing comes to my attention... You say your computer has built in speakers? And you have desktop (or is it laptop)?

Do you have anything connected to audio inputs in front? If you don't, try to connect your speakers in front.

    Edit:

you can download drivers from Lenovo here:
Lenovo support page - enter your model, or let it scan
