Where to change Windows sampling rate? Is it hidden

I work with audio using an external audio usb interface running at 44.1k. Windows is changing it to 48k for some reason...

so I have to set Windows sampling rate to 44.1k to match my external audio usb interface (scarlett 18i20).

But I cannot access any page where I can do that inside windows. As u can see in the screenshot, "Playback/Speakers" have no advanced tab to configure.

I tried to set Device Usage: enable, disable.., nothing works.

    How can I do that?

Give videohelp.com a try,the site specializes in audio/video and is as safe as this site.

Mines is on the advanced tab when I click on speakers, not sure why you don't have it.

    I believe I fixed it!
I went to my motherboads drivers website and installed Realtek, from there I could set windows to 44.1k as default (or I hoping so!).
    So far, no problems...
Weird thing is that, I've been using my audio interface for over 5 years and never had this issue of Windows out of sudden starting changing from 44.1k to 48k every time I run a browser or a music player...
Never had to install Realtek or any driver except the one in which is used by my interface.
Hope this is solved! Thank y'all

    Some thoughts:

    1. It appears no "speakers" are/were plugged in to the sound card/onboard Realtek?, so you won't see any bit rate settings until something is plugged in to it.

    2. If you don't use the onboard sound, disable it in the bios (totally gone) or even in Windows Device Manager (sorta kinda gone) and those inactive devices will disappear completely from the sound settings and 'Windows awareness'.

I have a Scarlett 2i4 I would love to use as my main/exclusive Windows sound device, instead of my onboard Realtek via analog output to receiver (my motherboard has no digital output at all ), but I get random obnoxious static/pops/white noise(?) when watching youtube videos or the like. I assume it is to do with the USB connection. It works great in my D.A.W (Reaper) for recording guitar and vocals, but seems to be crap for general Windows sound. Do you ever get any similar noise using an external audio usb interface like that?

I've never experienced that, but maybe (like me) you may want to check the sampling rate your windows is using when on youtube or running any music player for that matter, etc.
If you use 44.1k for Reaper and windows changes to 48k whenever you watch something, that may cause these pops and (other problems like I'm having). It must be set to a fixed sampling rate for everything.

Also, I see here that 2i4 doesnt work with Mixcontrol... noise, pops (and all that kind of stuff..) are pretty likely due to latency and inadequate buffer size.

What driver are you using for 2i4? It should be Asio right?

It is the most recent 4.36.5-612 version, and yes it is ASIO. It adds an ASIO control panel with options to set Hz and buffer size. I set it to 48000 and 256, then make in the windows settings 16 bit 48000, or whatever matches the ASIO control panel. But I have tried buffers from 128-512 and bit rates of 16/44.100, 16/48000, 24/48000.

All settings work fine in Reaper (it uses ASIO), but in general windows (pretty sure not ASIO) use, music, videos, games, etc. it gives me the random noise/corruption. Not constant like a ground loop, just every few minutes or so I get a loud, obnoxious, "cshhhhhh", "bvvvvvvvt" or beep.

I also have an older M-Audio FastTrack interface, and it behaves the same way, even worse (there are no proper Windows 10 driver for it). But, oddly, I have a usb headset that works perfectly fine.

    Have you run LatencyMon?

this might be pointing us to something...

What's the configuration of the Power Management tab of ALL your USB Hubs?
Are those 2 options checked or unchecked?

Latencymon, ran before and always had good results. I run my PC pretty lean and clean. I can set the ASIO buffer as low as 64 and get away with it, but usually leave it at 128 because it seems to work fine. I'm pretty sure that is irrelevant during normal Windows use anyway though.

Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power = Checked
Allow this device to wake the computer = Unchecked and greyed out

My onboard (analog) audio is adequate. I just prefer to use digital output to my receiver, and my MSI B450 board has none...at all. I'll probably just get a sound card with optical SPDIF output eventually though. I just figured why do that when I have all these pricey usb sound devices laying around...but yeah. They don't work so good for anything other than guitar/vocal mic recording that they were intended for.
