    Sound issues after Sleep mode

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Sound after my PC awakes from Sleep mode.

It doesn't happen every time but rather irregularly.
Still annoying tho because I have to reboot each time it happens.

After I awake my computer the Sound icon is displayed in my systray with a little red icon and white cross on top of it.

And when I go to Sound in my Configuration screen several tabs there are blank.
When I reboot my machine everything is back to normal.

So far I've tried to update my Drivers, reinstalled Realtek Audio but to no avail.

I noticed on my Network Driver that there're several options like allow this device to awaken this pc, or vice versa, and I was wondering if similar options exist for my Sound drivers, albeit none are visible at first sight...

Or do you know alternative methods to prevent my pc to put my Sound driver into sleep mode?

    Thanks!

    Hi witten1972

Can you relate any other changes to the timeframe when this started? Maybe video driver updates or window updates?

I saw you said sleep but is is possible it is falling into a hibernation?

Have you tried the sound troubleshooter to see it it is noting any issues?

"Can you relate any other changes to the timeframe when this started? Maybe video driver updates or window updates?"
No not really. I have this problem for quite some time and I can't pinpoint the exact date it started.
Meanwhile I got monthly Windows updates, and occasionally Driver updates, so its hard to say when exactly...

"I saw you said sleep but is it possible it is falling into a hibernation?"
Yeah it could. Not sure what difference it would make tho...

"Have you tried the sound troubleshooter to see if it is noting any issues?"
Yes I did, but when the Sound icon displays an error- cross I can't run the troubleshooter because the system can't find the Drivers. There' nothing to scan. And of course once I restart everything is back to normal and the
    troubleshooter doesn't find any problems.

Hibernation can cause issues with drivers.

You can shut hibernation off for a test.

    To a Command Prompt(admin) or PowerShell(Admin)

    powercfg -h off

To turn back on change the word off in the command to on.

    I see, thanks Ken!
Did what you said and I'll monitor the situation to see if my problem re-occurs.
If not, your solution was succesful

Well Ken, I tried "powercfg -h off" and a while later I noticed my sound was gone.
I then restarted my PC and my sound works again. S
o there must be a correlation somewhere...

Will keep my eye on it and see if my sound problem returns, but if not your tip was spot on, thanks again!

I get the problem occasionally, (Audio Service stopped popup above sound icon with the red cross), worst was during the Windows 10 1803 version period, and just a couple of days ago once but that is in 5 months on 1809. But it was not your frequency.
You can go Task Manager > Services Tab >
Look for "Audiosrv" or "AudioEndpointBuilder" right click and restart service. Maybe different names of course.
I don't have Hibernate in the Shut Down Menu Options.

I would try the Power Options thus:
Power Options > Additional power settings > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable, then Untick the box for "Turn on fast start-up(recommended)" > Save changes.
Then Shut Down and Power on again, it will take longer, wait, because it checks more stuff. Do this several times then go back to that Fast start-up again returning it to the original.

It is just the idea that the longer Power On time checks and sorts stuff out a bit.

Helmut I tried to restart those two Services after my Sound disappeared again, but that didn't help.
I also don't have Hibernate in my Shut Down menu options.

"Choose what the power button does" I can choose between No action, Sleep, Turn off & Turn off screen. Currently the power button turns off my PC.

"Change settings that are currently unavailable, then Untick the box for "Turn on fast start-up(recommended)"Not sure what you meant with the first part. I mean when certain settings are unavailable how can I change them?
And I can't Turn on or off Fast start-up because that option is not visible in the Power settings.

Please find the original sound driver for your machine at the device vendor web site.

Completely remove the existing sound and sound drivers software.

Set Windows to not update drivers. Option 4 this tutorial.

Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

Once removed install your original driver.

Ok thanks Ken, I'm gonna give it another shot.
As I already applied this method before but not since I turned off Hibernation.
Who knows it might help this time. Will keep you posted. Could take several days to evaluate the situation tho...

    Take care!
