    Device Connect/Disconnect Sounds Don't Work


    Per the thread title, when I connect or disconnect an external device, or even change drivers Windows no longer makes the connect/disconnect sound(s) on one of my machine. Likewise, when I change the volume it doesn't make the standard "ding" test tone. I have checked all of the settings I know of (e.g. Windows sounds) and they are "enabled" and sound drivers isn't the problem. Is there a registry entry that has gotten corrupted or something else I can try to restore?

    Hi mccnavy

    Have you tried the Sound Trouble shooter?

    Start > Settings > Update and security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio

    I tried your recommendation...no issues were found. My sound works...it seems to just be those specific events that aren't triggering a sound.

    You could try an in-place repair if you are on 1809? It is non destructive but I always recommend you back up your data.

    If you go to the sound control panel, click sound tab, it sounds like if you test any enabled system sound it does not play. Is that correct?

    Actually, when I test the sounds...they play just fine. They just don't activate when I actually insert an external device.
