Did you do any updates or the Dell Support Assist did updates?
Look at the Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controller section. Is Realtek (the sound in your model) listed and does it have an error code or is it shown as working OK? If Realtek isn't listed but High Definition Audio is, reinstall Realtek as a start.
Here is the link to the Dell downloads:

I apologize but I am 84 and I know so darn little about pcs, despite having been using one for 20v years. Yes I just did an Dell update recently, last couple of days.

I checked and tried to install Realtek and it said the Realtek you are installing is older than the one you have

I checked and according to what I see on 3-15-19 probably when I updated dell info My Realtek audio was downloaded, Now should I go back and re install the older Realtek as that up date might be the cause of my problem...

    I'm 81 so age isn't a real factor.
First try a "refresh" of the Realtek. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Realtek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the driver. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Realtek. If this doesn't work then reinstall the older driver and see if that works.

Forgetting is a factor. anyway, I need to add, Besides the headset issue not working I also try Blue tooth speakers which are also inop but it says "paired"
Next, On Device Manager there is not Realtek, but Realtek does show up on control panel. as upload Mar15 2019

Can you post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controller section?

For an example here is mine (I have additional devices as I also use my PC for my recording studio)
