    Playing MP3 alternatives ?

    I've about 5GB of MP3 music and wondering if there are any better alternatives besides burning to disk which can easily get damaged etc....?

    Hi there

    @Arcadian

    copy to smart phone - smartphones have music playing apps -- VLC or Kodi on a smartphone will play almost any codec. If your smart phone has separate sd card store music on there -- it can also be copied into computer.

    Use Blu tooth to play to speakers.

    IMO though having music on HDD on a computer / NAS is just fine - just keep a backup then no problem.

    Cheers

    You can probably buy a decent Smartphone cheaper than most Walkman's!

    Many companies are still making dedicated portable MP3 players, from basic ones like the Sandisk Clip to high-end audiophile-level players. And Sony makes MP3 players under the Walkman name across various price points.

    Hi there
    @Arcadian

    you probably could get a decent cheap iPod (remember those) these days -- personally if you want to go jogging with music I'm sure there are some tiny portable music players that are so much better than tape drives.

    Any of these would work a treat for you -- cheap enough and robust -- also transfer to / from computer fine.

    I still use an iPod shuffle which I've had for a decade. Doesn't seem to mind getting dropped, soaked in water etc and lasts days longer than my phone.

    It can only store 2GB but that is still a lot if you don't care about quality too much and it weighs almost nothing. Far less than my headphones certainly.

    About $20 on eBay.

    Thanks for all the input much appreciated ! I was looking at the Sandisk link and by coincidence I've got a new USB 32 gb flash drive, would it be needed or is it something quite separate ?

    Edit forgot to add....
