High DPC latency causing audio stutters

    Build:

    i5 8600k 4.5ghz.

1x sandisk 120gb ssd. (boot drive, clean install of windows and latest update.)

    1x samsung 860 Evo 1TB ssd.

    Z370 HD3 Gigabyte Mobo.

    GTX 1080 ROG.

    2x 2666mhz DDR4 Corsair ram.

I've tried absolutely everything, disabling hpet, changing power saving modes on everything including changing all of my ethernet settings, enabling MSI on everything that I could, updating BIOS, reverting to old drivers, clean installing Graphics driver using DDU, using drivers provided by gigabyte, and also intel, also using default windows drivers and old graphics drivers aswell as ethernet drivers. I also bought a TP Link ethernet PCI adapter.

Can anyone shed anymore light on this?

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Presumably you started with a Latency Mon scan.

When did your PC last function without stutter? With a previous build of Win 10? Has it ever not been subject to stutter?

What is the trace from? Windows Performance Recorder? (I've not downloaded the 117Mb rar).

Example: in one case, 1709 was fine, stutter with 1803. The user had to identify the low level driver responsible delivered in 1803 and then extract the equivalent from 1709 and substitute that in the later build.

Each case tends to require analysis, lots of time, and a separate solution.

If you care to search the forum for
    stutter
    Latency Mon
    Windows Performance Recorder
    etc
you will find a number of examples which might point you in the right direction.

What is your Windows build? Win key + r, winver
At the present time 'latest build' for some is 1803, for others 1809, whilst others use Insider builds. Meanwhile others have not yet received the latest update for 1809 e.g.

Hi I've followed every forum I possibly could, seriously. It's only now because almost every website and forum hasn't had any solution that worked for me that I'm making my own posts.

The trace file is from windows performance recorder, it's a 30 second recording.

    The build is 1809.

This isn't the first time posting on a forum looking for help, I also posted on technet and while a gentleman was really helpful, it didn't yield any positive changes.

See here: Persistent High DPC latency! PLEASE HELP. (dxgkrnl.sys, Wdf01000.sys)

The PC is a new build and has always stuttered, I've managed to really limit how much it does stutter using the methods I described but it's still enough to cause audio cut outs in a USB headset, but not in my monitor leading me to believe it's something to do with my usb drivers. Any assistance you can offer will also be helpful, if you'd like I can take another scan in LatencyMon and give another Speccy file, as well as any more traces that might be required.

I'm very attuned to latency as I use my PC for my recording studio.

One thing I've found, and something to consider, is NVIDIA video seems to be one source of the problem. I'm only using the Intel CPU Video (i7 6700K) because of potential video card caused problems on my recording studio system. I ran across dropouts in recording on one of my desktop builds that had an NVIDIA video card. Changing the video card to a Radeon fixed that problem. I recently did some field testing on a new Dell G7 laptop that had NVIDIA (and the Intel CPU Graphics). I was getting DPC Latency mon hard page faults caused by NVIDIA. I disabled the NVIDIA which forced it to use the Intel and the page faults went away and DPC Latency mon was "happy". I did several recordings with the test laptop and no audio issues. The NVIDIA may not be your problem but it has been on mine and has been problems for several from reports on recording forums.

Other than High Performance power plan and the PC is never allowed to sleep, I have no tweaks in my recording desktop.

I've already tried changing to integrated graphics and there was no change.

I've also used DDU to uninstall and clean install new drivers, as well as reverting back to older versions of drivers for my graphics card.

I appreciate everyones help but I need someone who can read my trace file and help me figure out which driver is specifically causing me problems.

No expert in viewing those, sorry. Few are..

zinou has used the recorder a lot in the context of slow boots.

See an example here - with a solution in that case:

Does Latency Mon show hard page faults (and what device)?
That seems to be the biggest item.
Run Latency Mon and the post the overall screen (mine is shown below).

Windows 10 audio clicks, pops, stutters. storport latency issues? HELP? - Windows 10 Forums

    - which I posted above- 2 fixes, I think, related to storport.sys

Latency problems after upgrade to version 1803 Solved - Windows 10 Forums
    Fix at #4

    - which I also posted previously.

These may or may not be relevant in your case of course.

    (I searched the forum for
    storport.sys latency
    storport.sys stutter

    - you may find more)

Please advise if these help at all.

You could pm zinou to ask for help looking at your trace.

Doing a web search for the storport.sys latency, the one thing that often comes up is doing a clean install. Start with that and if all is OK then if you add apps, such as Google Chrome, Steam, games etc only do one at a time and then run Latency Mon after each install.

If you have a spare disc, I would use that for the clean install testing instead of your current drive.
