When my speakers are turned off, even when I'm not online, I seem to be getting music coming from them. Am I picking up radio traffic, or is there something else going on? It goes away if I turn the speakers up a little. My computer is a desktop, currently using DSL instead of Wi-Fi.
Hi, what sort of speakers are they? Bluetooth? Wired? How are they turned off? Do you mean powered off, or a setting on your PC? If the latter, which one?
Any sort of detail might be helpful.
If you substitute headphones for the speakers when that's happening, what do you hear?

Yes, it's very possible to pick up radio audio from speakers. The speaker wires act as an antenna and the amplifier circuitry inside the speakers act as a demodulator. Just Google for "speakers picking up radio."
If you move the speakers and/or wires around does the audio go away?
As an experiment, try wrapping (one of them) in tin foil...!
I recall building a simple FET amplifier - in an aluminium box too- when I was young. I coud hear a friend down the road using his ham radio perfectly.
Unplug the speakers. It is possible that you are picking up interference from a transmitter very close to you.
The speakers plug in to the back of the computer and are powered by the computer. This just started within the last 24 hours, wasn't a problem before that. Do you suppose the onset of really cold air might be responsible? This is the first real cold spell we've had in a long while. Cold air is supposed to make waves travel better.

May also be caused by poor ground/earthing. I had a space heater picking up a radio station and playing.
