    Ongoing audio issues with crackling headphones


    The issue is headphones not working with my PC. I first bought a stereo headset which used the 3.5mm audio jacks with two different inputs. The sound worked fine, However the microphone didn't. The microphone was crackling in calls. At first I thought it was the headset and so I purchased a new headset and had the same issue with the microphone. After the second one did not work, I bought a USB 3.0 headset, and with the usb headset the microphone works fine, However the audio is crackling with the headset. I then changed my computers soundcard and had the same issues. I've tried resetting Windows 10 and still, The issue persists. I've tried different headphones and separate microphones but still no luck.

    Hi, you might try running Resplendence's Latencymon (free) to check for driver latency.

    Usually stutter is related to playback, but I suppose it could apply to a mike input too.

    If it indicates a problem, feel free to search the forum for
    Latencymon
    stutter

    - but I've not seen a case where only the microphone has been involved - but there might be one...

    Hello, I ran that test and the levels were low and green. When the audio was playing through my Television, Then I switched to the headset and it jumped to red. I tried all four headsets I have and all went to red. I tried the suggestions it suggested in the results area and still no luck. Thanks in advance for your help.

    USB headset does not use the PC's sound card, it has its own "sound card" built in as it gets digital data from the PC (and sends digital data for the mic).

    Post a screenshot of the Latency Mon. Let it run for a couple of mins, not a short 20 or 30 seconds.

    Are you using wi-fi? That is a know cause of crackling in many.

    As this has happened with both analog (3.5mm plug) type and USB type it suggests some other PC problem and not a problem with the PC's sound card. Please fill in the "My System" spec's too as it can help someone to try and help you.
