OK this morning I had no issues what so ever. When shutting down I did have a small update didn't take long to update and system shut down pretty much like normal.

Booted up this evening and it finished the update but then I noticed I had no sound.

I tried restarting no good.

I then thought my drivers might have gone back our been out of date so I used device manager to try and update but ti says most current are installed.

I then tried to go out to HP's website for my system and get the drivers and manually install. During the install I get the following error

Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!
[Error Code : -0001]

I then went and googled it a bit and was checking device manager some more and I noticed that for my Sound, Video and game controllers I have in there my AMD High Definition Audio Device and when I click on properties it says under device status that it is working properly.

In the other devices category though I have two items in there

Intel high Definition Audio
Intel high Definition DSP

Both have a yellow exclamation mark next to them and if I try and update drivers it says

Windows was unable to install your Intel HD Audio
Windows could not find drivers for your device

Same for the other just change the device name.

Properties for both these items in device status says

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Someone suggested it could be associated with the AMD graphics card and others in the group seem to have success fixing it that way but no good did not help.

Any ideas how to fix this???

Is an HP Omen laptop!

Edit: I did do trouble shooting scans also for this.

I'm having the exact same problem on my HP laptop. I even tried a factory reset and it returned to where it was before the factory reset. It started last night when I logged onto the computer. It says "No audio output device is installed." I'm just a computer user, not a developer or programmer.

Right-click the Intel High Definition Audio Device, select "Update driver", "Browse my computer for driver software", then click "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer". If one is found, install it. You may need to restart your computer for the change to take effect.

This will sound really basic, but I downloaded the Realtek audio driver for my laptop on the HP website. I had tried to download the 1803 driver to no effect, but downloading the May 2017 driver did work and it survived a restart, so I'm not going to mess with it now. I read on another thread the the update installed the Intel driver, which doesn't work on the HP laptop that I'm using. I hope this helps. I'll be back if the problem reappears.

I was helping a friend with their HP Laptop,
that was having this same issue.

We installed an old Realtek driver, ( Realtek HD audio driver: sp79991.exe),

(6.0.1.8110 Rev.A

275.1 MB

May 2, 2017)

from the HP site,
which got us back the missing Sound, Video and game controllers device.

This old driver installation was done,
only after uninstalling all the other audio drivers present in Device Manager.

OK this worked for me I selected one of the items under the OTHER DEVICES tab in device manager that had an exclamation mark next to it and right clicked it as Ben suggested and this time I browsed my computer (DO NOT Search the web as I tried that and it did not work.

This time I selected browse my computer and made sure SUB FOLDERS box was ticked then clicked next to search the selected folder. So in this case you will need to know what folder the drivers are stored in. In my case my HO Omens drivers were stored in

C:\SWSetup

So I selected SWSetup as the folder with all sub-folders box checked and it searched all the various drivers that were in there and it found and installed the right one and I got sound back without even having to restart.

Just drives me nuts as I was so close last night I tried this but instead of browse my system I tried searching web also hard to believe was so close!!

I changed this back to unsolved. as I was doing this all this morning when I woke at 3AM as just woke and did not try the computer speakers out at the time as my wife was behind me sleeping.

After she woke I unplugged my headphones and found I have no sound from the computer speakers now.

I do have sound though from the headphones is only when I unplug the headphones do I then lose sound again.

Click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen, select "Sounds", click on the "Playback" tab and make sure "Speakers" has a green check mark. If it doesn't, highlight it and click "Set Default".

Hi Ben

Here is my sound panel it is selected but no sound from speakers when i right click and test. Was fine yesterday morning before the update that seems to be effecting alot of users from seeing the drivers thread here.

The bottom checked one was added after I did what you suggested above that did get sound back to my headphones but not the speakers.

The top 3 have been there since I got the laptop in June. Were all fine yesterday or last time I looked at this panel with icons and options available until yesterday when they all went to how you see them.
