Listened to these for a few hours now. The bass is good and the detail is there but they sound slightly rough around the edges.

Coming from 8279, I think 8292 are actually better. At least vocals seem especially more distinct than before to me.

No idea how these engineers at RT do it but they turn drivers into little EQs or so it seems.
To my aging ears 8279 seems to have struck a good balance overall. Used to hear sounds over 24KHz when I was younger, no idea what it's like now I turned 60. LOL....

Yes, @DooGie, I did. I have two machines deploying the same RT chip. I still prefer 8279.

It sounds better balanced to me. But your ears may prefer different.
You know, although audio is a science at the end of the day we choose whatever we like. Speaker aren't ruler flat either, neither are rooms.

I agree and haven't updated since 8279. Everything sounds well-balanced to me.
