Realtek HD Audio Driver Version old post

ugh. that driver is a cab file, and this time for some reason it's not letting me install it.

I deleted the realtek driver, rebooted, and windows is saying that the driver is already installed. so I can't point it to the cab file.

I was just now digging around in there and noticed that. I recall doing this in the past, but I can't for the life of me remember how to make it think the file location is the floppy drive.
Would it work if I put it on a usb stick and then point to it?

Edit* I just dropped it on a USB stick and tried pointing the "install from disk" function to it, and no go.

I'm a night shift worker, and I don't know if it's just because i'm tired and missing something, or if it's just not working.

Also, that driver link has two available file downloads.

One is 129.6 MB and the other is 75.4 MB. Both are .cab files.

I don't see any difference other than size. So I downloaded the larger file (129.6 MB)

ISO? this is a .cab file. do I need to convert this to an ISO file?

or burn it to a bootable cd?

and what the heck anyway, Microsoft could make this an executable file. ugh.

ok cool, at least I grabbed the right version.

I solved the .cab file part, but not the subwoofer issue.

Windows wasn't seeing the .cab file. The confusion on my end is that when I put the file in a new folder, it opened automatically just by clicking on it without any sort of winrar or 7-zip.
So I thought Windows could simply see the sub files without any extraction.
And it wouldn't open with extractnow, which is what I normally use.
So I clicked on the .cab file, and when it opened I just right-click copied the files, and pasted to my folder.
I then pointed the driver update to the folder and windows successfully updated the driver.

Still no subwoofer output, no matter which selections I make in "Configure".

So I redid troubleshooting 101.
Checked the settings on the sub to make sure they were correct.
Followed the wires to make sure they were correct.
Swapped the sub into the stereo out on my motherboard and the sub works.
Put the sub back onto it's dedicated motherboard out and nothing.
And it worked right up until this windows 10 install, which is now the creator's edition after upgrades.

Oh, and one important thing: When I do the test signals for surround sound, windows sends a signal to the sub and it's loud and clear.
But it just doesn't activate during any music.
