Realtek HD Audio Manager (for hp computers) not closing

Due to quite long delays in startup, attributable to the audio service, I decided to completely uninstall the Realtek audio software from my hp laptop. I also deleted all Realtek audio drivers from the DriverStore.

After rebooting, Windows 10 installed the default Microsoft Audio Driver and a few moments later, without any intervention by me, it installed the “recommended/best” driver for my audio chipset (version 6.0.1.7944, which by the way is the “best” version for my PC according to hp too).

When I opened the Realtek HD Audio Manager (DTS Audio Control) – shown in the image below - to make some changes, I noticed that when I was closing the app, by pressing the “x” in the upper right corner, the app was NOT closing, but instead it was minimizing in the system tray!
The only way to close it, was to kill the process in the task manager.

I updated the Realtek driver to version 6.0.1.8475 (downloaded from the MUC). The driver was updated as it should, but the problem with the Realtek HD Audio Manager was still there!

There is no option anywhere in the app, to change that behavior. None I could see at least.

Has anybody else noticed that behavior? And if yes, is there a solution to close the app instead of having it minimized in the system tray and closing it by killing the task?

You were talking about Realtek. What has this DTS thing got to do with that?

Ok, suggest you refer to the DTS web site, your laptop supplier, or HP. I use Realtek, 6.0.1.7629.

You might also prefer to retitle your post, since this is perhaps a HP packaged utility.

Thanks, but I have already done that. HP has 6.0.1.7944 available for my laptop, which is the version Microsoft installed on its own.
What I would do, is uninstall again the existing 6.0.1.8475 and before Windows 10 installs its own 6.0.1.7944, I will run the hp provided software, to see how it goes.

    Thanks again for your time!

UPDATE: Nope...the hp provided Realtek Audio driver does exactly the same. The Audio Manager is not closing!

The Realtek Manager is a "Service" isn't it? , it starts with the PC and must be running to use the Enhancements ...eg DTS , EQ, Port Sensing etc , at least that is my take on it...

Without being an expert of the Windows audio service, I wouldn't agree with your comment.
At system startup, Realtek is starting the "HD Audio Background Process" and the "Realtek Audio Service", as shown in the following image:

The Realtek HD Audio Manager, is not a service. It's just a configuration app, with different implementation/customization per OEM.

My understanding is that the one I have from HP, is very poorly implemented, not allowing the user to choose whether to close the app or minimize it to system tray.
That is why I asked if anyone has any idea (a registry entry for example) how to close the damn thing and not minimize it to the system tray, which is its default behavior!

    Hey ddelo,
I have an HP with Beats Audio Control Panel and it does the same thing. I haven't found a fix for this, as it's the way they wrote the program (i.e. the - minimizes to taskbar and x closes to systray instead of actually closing the program). The only work around I've found is to stop it from running at startup ... In Task Manager > Startup disable the RealTek HD Audio Manager and in Windows Services set the RealTek Audio Service startup to Manual.

    Note:
    1. I admit it's not really much of work around, but since I don't use the thing it works for me.
    2. You can still start it from control panel, but you still have to kill using task manager.
