Audio Services not responding all of a sudden

Woke up two days ago to not having the capability to watch youTube videos. Thought it was a YouTube issue until I attempted to play an mp3 file only to find out that it didn't playback and sent me an error message. Troubleshot my audio and tried to test the sound, but my computer failed to hear the test tone. I have reinstalled my audio's driver, have set my laptop's default speakers as the default sound option, have checked the status of the audio driver to find out that it's "working properly," and I'm still not able to hear sound out from my laptop. Do not know what to do.

Wanted to see if there was a problem with my audio in Settings, but I also have an issue with opening it as well. Everytime I head to my settings, I'm only able to get to the main menu, and once I click on a category, the menu freezes and force shuts. I'm frustrated and would like some assistance please.

Hi, it seems you have more basic problems than simply audio services- so you might want to change the title to attract appropriate attention.

Please complete your specs including details of your disk drive(s). See mine for comparison. A tutorial is available if needed.

What is your Windows build? Windows key + R, winver

As we know nothing about your PC's history, we need to start with some basic checks.

1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial).
Post a screenshot of its GUI using the Insert Image icon above your post.
If all disks are reported as good, continue.

2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

3. From an admin command prompt please run
SFC /SCANNOW
and report the result.

Do the following steps:
Check your left below corner of screen whether sound icon is enabled or not?
check your device manager if there is yellow mark on sound icon .
Try to restore your pc with the restore point when it was working fine.

Thanks. Please go back to post #2.
1. Check your disk. If the disk is failing, all else becomes meaningless. This has been known on numerous occasions.

2. Please report the result of running chkdsk (see one of the links I quoted).

When we have those results, it should be possible to decide on the next step ref. SFC /SCANNOW failure.

Great - now if chkdsk is ok, the next step would be an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs, data and most settings.
