With Open Shell 4.4.126 you can do a direct update. However, before you do back up your setting to xml file. As this version won't keep them it will do away with classic Shell and classic start. once installed you can restore the xml file to get back most of your setting.. this is an ongoing project and changing daily. I have 2 computers on Classic Start and one on Open Start. Several days now with no issues that I have found. I'm pretty sure by the time 1809 comes out they will have fully functional ready for the public version ready
If you install Classic Start ver 4.4.109 you should back up your settings, uninstall Classic Shell reboot and then install Classic Start then restore your setting using the xml back up you made. I just used Program and Features to uninstall Classic Shell
" I'm pretty sure by the time 1809 comes out they will have fully functional ready for the public version ready "..................yes, then its the right time to update to latest , so we can face RS5 with a solid startmenu again !
There are links on this page. Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements
And most of the skins here Classic Shell • View topic - Skin Compilation
When I first started to use Windows 10 I tried to go two weeks without installing Classic Shell. The W10 start menu is so limited it only lasted a few days.
Back to this year again with Classic Shell not working in RS5 I tried to use the W10 start menu which only lasted a day and went back to Classic Shell dreading the day when RS5 went final and was forced to me. After which someone finally took it over and made it work in RS5 I don't even bother with the abomination W10 start menu.
I presently have 4.4.126 Open Shell installed and all is going well in Windows 1803 for me. Just curious, does anyone know whether there is going to be a site to replace the current Classic Shell site, with forums, etc. The GitHub site is a little too techy for me to really understand what I am doing when I download something. Hopefully, there will be a a site dedicated to Classic Start, Neo Classic, Open Shell or whatever it ends up being named so that we "dummies" can use and participate.
Well, blow me down! I installed Classic Shell 4.3.1, and it works with Skip Ahead Build 18214!
The jury's still out, but the default gives so much more than the regular Windows 10 Start Menu that I'm going to leave things alone for a few days just to see what I can see.
Stay tuned to see if there's a Crow Eating Episode . . .
