Like Wynona said, long time. I used a menu called up from MS-DOS named HDM/Hard Disk Menu for starting Windows 3.1 and other programs.
That is good but did MS help you design it?? That was my point.

That's not what I read and understood you to say, Josey:

Microsoft is not going to take any input on a 3rd party app that will replace their start menu.

Have you ever heard of Microsoft helping anyone with a third party app? As far as I know, they never have, and probably never will, except for providing guidelines.

Now that Github belongs (or will soon) to Microsoft, who knows what will happen there?

What I said is that MS will not help anyone to change their product, they never have and never will. They also will NOT accept or look at any input on how to do it.

Old Windows is dying, slowly but surely.
Another OS is bornig in the backgrounds using name Windows.
In near future, very few of Old MS Windows is left.
Perhaps we shloud call it Indian Windows

Luckily, XP's story is coming to end.

In my native Finland, the Finnish Communication Regulatory Authority announced last week that using XP in government sites will no longer work after start of 2019. The same with online banking, we Finns identify us on government sites using banking credentials.

eServices must prepare for changes in banking credentials-based identification

One reason XP has hung around so long is that it was a very good OS, especially after SP3 was released. I expect some using it will still have to be dragged kicking and screaming to a newer version of Windows.

Many Banks in Australia are still using W7.
Very foolish for any person or Business to use anything below W7 as it is open to security flaws and hacking being the biggest issue, I read most Companies in the past year of the large hacks - data breach were using OS that were either XP or not updated W7.
W10 is the only way to go.
