Viewing TV channels on my Laptop over LAN

    Hi All,
Not very computer literate and not sure which area to post this question, so I'm looking for some help on this forum.

Up until one of the recent W10 updates I used to be able to open file explorer, look under my Network locations, click on my Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-BWT835) where I was then given the choice of viewing the recorded movies on the recorder's hard drive, or view the digital free to air TV channels on my Acer V17 Nitro Aspire laptop.

I could open each channel (file) in Windows Media Player and watch tv over our LAN on my laptop, the files are M2T.
Windows Media player was the only Media player capable of playing these files, and since a recent update WMP doesn't recognise the files and neither does any other media player I have.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks in anticipation

Have you tried VLC Media Player. It has a separate Local Network option? A quick search suggests them files wont work in media player already but some suggested it came up with a error saying not compatible but then still played. Is try VLC.

Thanks KingTez, I have tried VLC Media Player. Originally WMP played (streamed) to my laptop without any problems. No other media player would. Now I get "An unexpected error occurred .............."
Do you know if there would be codecs available for WMP to do what I used to be able to do?

Not sure if this is just for Store Apps, but give the Mpeg2 vdeo extension from the Store a try, i need this to play tv recordings in the UK

Thanks PaulSalter. After downloading and installing for a moment I thought it was going to work but after some time I received the message
'Can't play: Please try again. If the problem continues, visit Xbox One Support | Xbox 360 Support | Xbox Live and Billing Support to guidance. 0xc00d2ee6'. cheers

Another thing to look at, if you can lad the file into VLC, then go to tools and codec information, what does it say

Should look similar to this, think M2T is similar to our TS format, details like below should give more info on file

It won't load paulsalter. I open VLC go to Media->Open File click on a file but then VLC just sits there. Very frustrating! Thanks for your suggestions.

Have you tried to reconnect to your Panasonic TV Recorder and set it up as you did the first time you used it, via File Explorer -
    Connect to Media server:

Hi Gordon7, thanks for your suggestions. I tried it, but file explorer didn't find anything.
I suspect it only looks for Bluetooth media servers.
I think my computer recognises the Panasonic DVD recorder (DMR-BWT835/730) because it shows up in my network locations. cheers
