You obviously don't respect my knowledge or help I'm trying to give considering your condescending comments....

As for scanner software with the printer, it is very basic; Put a document in, press whichever buttons need to be pressed, such as where to send the scan, b&w or color, 2-sized, scan. That is why I use VueScan (or, gruffly, did until it stopped working.
    More attitude here....

Ah, you keep referring to "the scanner," which I don't have. The Brother MFC-9340CDW is a LED All-In-One printer: It prints color & b&w, scans, faxes, copies, does not wash the dishes.
    That attitude won't last here.

    Later.

You are totally misreading my comments, none of which are condescending, nor are any of them disrespecting your knowledge.

A simple example: I merely pointed out that I don't have a scanner, thus have no scanner software, and provided a simple explanation of the printer that I do have. There is no reason for you to state that my attitude won't last long, as I have no "attitude," unless you take exception to the obviously humorous comment about dish washing.

I have only been on-line since October, 1973; your comments about my so-called condescension and attitude are just about the only, if not the only, such I can recall having received in all that time.

If you want to try to help me, I would appreciate it; if not, so be it. That's all I am going to say about this.

With the assistance of Brother technical support, it has been positively determined that the problem lies with VueScan, which is not compatible with Windows 10, Version 1709.

I got the latest version of windows on my computer and VueScan is working fine. But I have a scanJet5 Scanner that was found easily by VueScan.

FYI, in case you and others have not read the entire thread; if you have, do not read this message...

NAPS2 finds the scanner in my Brother MFC-9340MFC printer, as do both All My Books and All My Movies, and VueScan worked correctly before updating Windows 10 to Version 1709.

However, and I don't know what, if anything this means, the Scan function in Brother Utilities does not work, nor does the Uninstall function, I have found. I don't know if they have ever worked, and the Brother tech was not concerned. It may be that I need to remove and reinstall the printer driver; perhaps VueScan would then start working again. I don't want to remove and reinstall the driver, but it would appear that I ought to. On the other hand, given that, with the exceptions noted, every thing that I use the printer or is working correctly.

Meanwhile, I am awaiting a reply from tech support for Free Download Manager, which is demonstrating a weird problem that was not there before v. 1709: When I start the on-line Linksys program for my router, if Free is set to monitor and handle downloads in Firefox, most of the Linksys modules in the program will appear, but never finish loading, just showing a "Wait" message. The Linksys software does not download any programs, it is for making changes in the router, so why Free would be monitoring and interfering with it is definitely in the category of "weird."
