    This will disable Cortana.

Copy and paste into administrator cmd.exe

    Code:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="SearchUI.exe Telemetry" dir=out action=block program="%SystemRoot%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchUI.exe" description="This rule prevents the Cortana telemetry. (This will also disable Cortana voice recognition.)"
    Or

    Code:
    REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules" /v "{6439910F-8291-46F1-842A-D9A313E49FCE}" /t REG_SZ /d "v2.24|Action=Block|Active=TRUE|Dir=Out|App=%SystemRoot%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchUI.exe|Name=SearchUI.exe Telemetry|Desc=This rule prevents the Cortana telemetry. (This will also disable Cortana voice recognition.)|" /f

SIRI collects more intrusive personal information than Cortana, it's just less transparent.
    It doesn't work.

If you like, you can use the method in the tutorial below to easily disable Cortana without affecting search. :)

Why does Cortana run in processes (in my case 35mbs) even though I disabled it? The Google link said it was 'solved' though reading all the posts I come away with the idea that disabling Cortana permanently will disable/delete/uninstall Search. I can understand that it uses that to function but can not understand why turning it off only turns off seeing it and that it continues to run in processes. Is there any way for a power user to rid ourselves of this? I personally don't use it or Edge. Edge I understand is how M$ talks to itself but the voice thing to me is cute but unnecessary.

    Hello tazmo, :)

Even though Cortana shows for Search, it's a separate process than Cortana the personal assistant.

The tutorial above will only disable Cortana the personal assistant.

So...bottom line is Cortana is like Edge, it's part and parcel of the OS therefore one of the 'untouchables'.....bummer

The search part shouldn't be disabled, but you can disable Cortana (personal assistant) if you like.

I agree about the search thing.... I was just wanting to eliminate Cortana in processes ( I did do the disable thing as per your tutorial) but it still shows in processes at +- 35 mb. I also toggled it off in Settings previously.

The Cortana process you are seeing is for SearchUI,exe. To verify, right click on Cortana in Task Manager, and click on Go to details.

    You have Cortana disabled. :)
