Have I really left this hanging for 3 months? I have been trying to get all the stuff that needed to be done outside before it snows, making do by just increasing the volume by dragging Audition's volume slider to approx. where I wanted and putting off finishing setting it up properly per pepanee's instructions on this computer (in the house where it is comfortable to use) and installing it on the one I actually use to record stuff (in the garage workshop where i have to stand up to use it but I'll be able process the files while I'm working on stuff) until I had time.

I'm very pleased with the way this works now that it's set up properly. Thanks everyone for all your help and particularly to pepanee for recommending Audition.

    You're Welcome!
Glad you got it working! I love this free version of Adobe Audition because of how much you can do within it. (I practically only use it to increase/decrease volume of songs, or trim off extra silence that's in the front/end of songs).

    =)

Update: 2 years later I'm still using Adobe Audition to process my recorded web radio programs every week. Since I last reported back I have added a process to the Favorites menu to normalize to the specific level I prefer and I'm getting pretty good at downloading the song that always seems to be cut off at the end and pasting it in.

The reason I came back to this thread is that someone asked me what I use to process the programs I record and I wanted the link for him. Unfortunately, that link no longer works for downloading but when I did my original installation I saved the installer and made a readme with the stuff you told me at the time plus the key and some notes on how I like it set up; I just installed AA on another computer here and the key still worked so I'm assuming it is still legit.

    Cool!

That is wonderful news that you're using that program still and are becoming more and more familiar with it. =)

I, of course, still use that version of Adobe Audition every time I get new music from the internet and need to make small adjustments to the song (trimming off silence at the end or beginning / and increasing or decreasing the volume on some songs). I'm really happy it all is working well for you. I thought that was a very nice move of the company to provide us with that program for free, but it's too bad they took it down from their site.

And, just like you, I also still have that original installation file they provided. =)

Adobe Audition still works on my end too. I guess that implies that key that Adobe provided is a lifetime key. I'm glad it works still.

And yes, you are correct, I can no longer find the download link on Adobe's website. I'm very sure they've taken it down, since they probably realized how great of an app it was to give out for free (so people would download it instead of purchasing their latest version lol). I tried looking at authentic third party websites, and found this website: Adobe Audition 3.0 Download - TechSpot
If you press the blue "Download Now" button, the site says it is now downloading. Wait for about 10 seconds, then the website changes to the original file's link on Adobe's site. It's a broken link! Look at the site's name:
    404 Not Found

That's where the download link was! They took it down!! That's too bad.
But yes, definitely keep a copy of it just in case an associate of yours needs a copy of it. Technically speaking, it is not illegal to redistribute it to individual people. Because: Since Adobe offered it for free, for a period of time, that implies that the application IS free and anyone can have it. (Not to be distributed in mass quantities though). LOL

Okay anyways, I'm glad you found it as a very useful Audio Editing program! I love using it and I will always use it as well =)

It's at times like this that I usually turn to the Internet Archive: Wayback Machine and give it that url to look for. Try one of the 2013 ones...

I usually use it for Microsoft downloads that MS have removed from their servers, in particular the Office 2000 Service Release (SR-1). This is a prerequisite for installing Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3). SP3 is still available from MS, but SR1 has been removed from all MS download servers.
