Is there a file extractor programme in Win10?

I want to update my car sat-nav. The VW instructions tell me I need a file extractor programme and recommend 7-ZIP. But do I already have a file extractor programme in Win 10. I would not know where to start looking. Any help please?

What format is the update file? Is it a .zip? If so, support for zip files is built into Windows 10. File Explorer can open a .zip file as if it was a folder. You can also right-click on a .zip file and select 'Extract All...'.

Thank you very much ,that is most helpful. I am not much of a techie but the web site states that the file is in a .7z format. I will download the update, that apparently will take eight hours, and see what happens. I have read the link-most helpful.

If it's in 7-Zip format (.7z), you may need this:

It's a very common app and used very widely for a long time. It is safe. It's free.
Choose the one for your system architecture, either 64-bit or 32-bit.

Many thanks, I will download that if Win 10 will not extract the file. I haven't got round to updating the sat-nav yet. It seems quite a long process, for me anyway.
