Icons in programs and features are missing

Some of the icons are missing from some of my programs, that i have in programs and features. The same goes for some the programs in my start menu.

Solved by doing a system file check, to bring back the missing icons.

    1. How do I change the name of the programs installed on my computer? I have tried CCleaner but sadly I cannot use it because it conflicts with steam

    1. Make copies of the real shortcuts, rename them then hide the originals.

    2. Right click the shortcut/Properties/Change Icon/Browse to the program's .exe

That seems to have brought back some of the icons from my programs in my start menu, but it didn't work for the programs that i have, in programs and features.

Ccleaner has never 'changed the name' of any of the installed programs on my PC.
I have to download ccleaner occasionally to change the names of my programs
To which cleaner option do you attribute what you're seeing?

Nor has it ever affected my control panel.

I find it hard to imagine what you see happening. Screenshot maybe?

You can specify what is to be excluded if it is doing something you don't want:

Oh, i basically open ccleaner, click on tools, and then double click on the program i wish to give a proper name.

    Why?

Thanks for the clarification. I've never used that or needed it, so didn't know about it. It seems that only renames the program in the uninstall list,

    1. In the Uninstall screen, select the name of the program you want to uninstall from the Programs to Remove list.
    2. Do one of the following:

    • Click Run Uninstaller to run the program's uninstaller.
    • Click Rename Entry to give the program a new name in this list only.

I don't use Steam so I don't know why it having it installed would interfere but you don't need to install CCleaner.

You can use the portable version - just stick the folder from the link below somewhere and run it (click on CCleaner64.exe) when you want. It will not interfere with anything when you aren't using it.

It's well known that ccleaner conflics with vac games on steam, see valves post.

I think its a bit inconvenient to install/uninstall ccleaner whenever i want to rename my programs.

That's why im looking for a better solution.
