Hey, You can still get MovieMaker ver. 6.0 original build for Win 7, but installs and work OK on Win 10.

You can still use Movie Maker if you can find a Windows Live Essentials offline installer and install it.

This page used to have links to download the offline installer.

Download Windows Essentials 2012 (Web installer)
Download Windows Essentials 2012 (Offline installer)

Update (3/21/2017): URLs removed as WLE lifecycle is over.

That same page is archived as it appeared on 19 Nov. 2016 in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine and the links will download the archived copy of wlsetup-all.exe that is also preserved in the Wayback Machine.

Note that the offline installer will report that the install fails. This is not entirely true, it fails at a point after Movie Maker has been successfully installed. At least that was the case back in April.

    EDIT:

I posted too early! Although installer gave the error message shown in screenshot, to my surprise I found Movie Maker and Photo Gallery now in Start Menu. Both work perfectly.

    Strange!
Windows Essentials 2012 will reach end of support on January 10th 2017

But if you'd prefer to try something more modern, Kari went on to say in post #23 of that thread...

...although I have found a pretty good alternative for Movie Maker: Shotcut, open source and completely free.

My experience with Movie Maker in 20H2 : unusable in any compatibility mode.

The recommended alternative, Shortcut, met my need perfectly.

In my experience works fine in any version up to and including Windows 11.

Windows automatically chose Windows 8 as the compatibility mode for it.
