Being asked by Win 10 to run setup for an ancient program

Windows 10 did a major update this morning. When I start one of the programs I've been using for at least 20 years, called PaintShop Pro 8 I get this message:

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the 'Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8' disk and click OK.

And then these:




If I cancel out of all that, ignoring other stuff about fatal errors and installation failing, PSP 8 comes up, apparently normal in appearance and layout. I've no idea what's going on here but obviously I want to fix it. I'm reluctant to use the CD except as a last resort because I'm guessing that would install the original, whch was then updated and then patched.Major hassle to reproduce all that, not to mention probably then reconfiguring all my settings

Any insights or suggestions please?

Try settings the PSP file to compatible to other o/s

Thanks. The good news is that impatience got the better of caution and I fed Win10 the PSP 8 setup CD it asked for (via Add/Remove programs > Repair). Happily PSP 8 has been starting and working OK since then.

Might get a few more years out of it...!

Is 8 the old one before corel got it and mucked up?

The screenshots say 'Jasc', so probably that's a 'yes'. Mine's even older, PSP 7.04. As I recall, I had similar problems when upgrading to Creators Update. Reinstalled it from the CD as a quick fix, settings were retained.

As per my post yesterday, that worked for me too. And I didn't have to update it from 8.01 (the CD) to 8.10, or the subsequent 'patch', which I'd been worried about. All settings also intact. Still no idea what caused it or exactly what vital data Win 10 squeezed out of that dusty CD. Just pleased to have it working!

Glad to hear I'm not the only fan of the older versions. I started with PSP 5.

I had the same issues with V9.01 (still Jasc) and just finally gave up and went to Corel latest version. Didn't think I would like it but I've gotten used to it.
