At what step and in what way was it 'no good'?
If you have a Microsoft account you may be able get online help from Microsoft using the 'Get Help' app. Find it on the Start menu, or type Get Help in the Cortana/Search box.....I am assuming it was Microsoft, do they have a UK helpline ?
If you don't have a Microsoft account, there's an online contact page here (this is the UK one)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/contactus/
The head office for the UK is here and should be able to give you the phone number for genuine Microsoft support. Be warned though, you may have to pay for support.

Thanks for tha e advice...do MS have a UK support line ?. BTW tried that aswell.
If you describe what you mean by "no good Im afraid" in a bit more detail we may be able to point you in the right direction without the need to pay Microsoft for a support call.
If you must call Microsoft the only safe number I can find is this one for the UK head office.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/contact.aspx
The same number is given here with specific reference to 'Support' and 'Customer service'.

Any other number you find with Google is highly likely to be a dangerous scam (I found several in my searches).
Thank you so much for all your help so far. I will try to contact a legitimate MS helpline,
