How to get rid of Yahoo pestilence?
Hi guys (and gals),
Google is my default homepage, but when I type in a search term, I get the Yahoo Search results page. I don't want Yahoo Search!
I removed it from Chrome Settings (it was there right under Google but not as default), did a restart, and the Settings overview says "The default browser is currently Google Chrome".
I also looked into the Registry. No Yahoo there, or any other unfamiliar file.
Control Panel: not in the Programs list.
I tried Malwarebytes and get a Clean result. I downloaded another one, but Norton intercepted it as Dangerous.
Can you tip me for another removal tool?

I don't use Google Chrome but here are instructions for setting your search engine in Edge
Set your default search engine - Computer - Google Chrome Help
Here's another one Make Google your default search provider – Google
I would imagine you will see Yahoo as your search engine, but once to change it, Yahoo shouldn't be bothersome anymore

I did all that, MAMC.
Yesterday I discovered Yahoo in the Chrome settings and removed it. All there is left now is the Google engine, and it's marked Default. I don't know if Edge has its own config for this, sometimes a popup asks me to make Windows explorer my default browser, which I click away.
I replaced the old shortlink in the Bookmarks bar for a new one (Google Search is not my standard homepage), but to no avail. But mind you; Yahoo pops up only after I type a search term in my Google Search. That's not okay. So I smell a little hack.

You could do a search for BHO or Toolbar cleaner, and see if that helps. (I don't use Chrome).

Something fishy here. Try a scan with AdwCleaner.

This may be way out on a limb, but light off IE, go to Settings>Manage Add-ons. Click on ALL Add-ons. Might surprise you what's in there and how it affects other apps.
Good luck...

Bree, that's what I did. Must admit, it was the trial version.
Okay, I'll give all options a go.

@CW Gilley,
Nothing to see there. I mean, my ME is like a virgin, to speak with Madonna. I never used it so far.
@dalchina,
"Tool Bar cleaner = Unsafe", courtesy Norton Security...
And what is HBO? According to Yahoo (ha!) "Help a Brother Out"...
That was BHO. (Browser helper object)
I did say 'A toolbar cleaner' I.e. there (used to be) tools either separately available or part of a utility suite to remove such things. If that's what this is related to of course.. unknown at this point.
Here's an extremely detailed guide related to yahoo ... it may be of interest, but also seems rather extreme - rigorous- at first glance.
Remove Yahoo Toolbar and search.yahoo.com (Removal Guide)
Simpler one to try here initially:

@dalchina,
There is no Yahoo Toolbar and the extensions/add-ons overviews are empty. As yet I haven't even activated a Bookmarks bar.
It's also odd because I never searched with Yahoo, I haven't downloaded any software lately save for things like a Mailchecker and Irfanview (image editor) Okay, I downloaded a few gyphies. Can they be contaminated with something?
