Homeschool and in need of a daddy daughter project to do.

For various personal reasons my wife and I have decided to Homeschool for 7th grade. We do wish to re-enroll her into a new charter school for 8th grade though as we both believe socialization is a keep part of school and overall development. The school that we're looking into is heavily into science, and does require all Seniors to learn at least one programing language before graduation.

Now my daughter is only 13 now (going on 24 if you ask her LOL) What languages would you suggest? I'm leaning towards something C based as I'd like to do some sort of project based around an Arduino Mega or something. What other languages you would recommend and why? I know that java, html/css, and python are currently very popular right now. Then there's also visual basic too. Now sure which route to go. Could use some suggestions from other home schooling parents.

    I wholeheartedly recommend FreeCodeCamp:

In my opinion this is at the moment the best way to start learning coding and programming languages. Absolutely free, everything needed will be provided.

What languages would you recommend? I was leaning towards C++ because it's so close to the same code that Arduino uses, as I want to use an Arduino as part of a science project. But that's because I'm personally interested in robotics. I don't want to force my interests onto my daughter. My daughter is artistic, so I'm not sure how that'd apply to a programing language. Of course anyone designing a game program would probably disagree with me on that. I'll certainly take a look at those links, but I do need some suggestions on which of the many languages I should be looking at?

The FreeCodeCamp project although not focused on variations of C is in my opinion best choice for your daughter (and for you to learn new stuff, too!), especially considering her age and her artistic nature as you mentioned.

If you want to you can check what Visual Studio 2017 Community edition offers. It is completely free, too, download from here: Downloads | Visual Studio Official Site

On download page you'll find a link for beginners:

In addition I would download Visual Studio Code, also free: Visual Studio Code - Code Editing. Redefined
