What about in the application itself?

Open ICQ 10.0, and go to Settings (click the cog wheel icon at the bottom left side of the screen).

Then click on Notifications. Here you should see an option to turn off 'Play sounds'How to change notification sound for ICQ ?-1.png

Ah I see. Usually the notification sounds are built-into the program, which means you can't really change it, if the application doesn't give you an option to do so.

You could try browsing to the application folder in C:\Program Files(x86)\ICQ and look to see if there is a folder in there with the notification sounds. Then replace the different notifications sounds (renaming the original sound file notification1_old and name the new sound as notification1) to match the same file name.

As I don't use ICQ I'm not sure if it will let you to customise the sounds as it looks fairly compact. Another program like Skype I believe lets you change these notification sounds.

Is the notification sound you are trying to change, actually sounds from the application or is it from Action Center in Windows? (the right column notification panel)

Okay, sounds like its probably a built-in notification sound and would be very hard to change .

I guess you could go searching for a third-party program/software that allows you to change the notification sound, but I am doubtful that there will be one specifically for ICQ 10.

You could have a look at trying Skype if you want an alternative.

Other than the suggestions above I am not sure if I can help you any further, sorry . Perhaps a more experienced member can suggest a manual way of changing the notification sound by means of delving deeper into ICQ's program code/construction?

You could also contact ICQ directly and tell them, would it be possible to include a customisable feature for notifications sounds. They then may implement it into a future update :).

After the same problem I deinstalled ICQ 10 and installed ICQ8 and changed the sound,it's not just the sound, the entire program has more options and is more understandable, just install it and stop wasting time on newer versions, you won't regret it. :)
