    Adobe Reader 11 on Win 10 64bit - slow to open?

    I'm running a more than decent system here, but have recently noticed that PDFs are very slow to open on first cold boot.

    If I shut it down and restart (rather than restart as it takes longer), PDFs seem to open as expected.

    I think I can say the same with Chrome and IE11 - slow to open.

    Is there a known fix?

    Hi there

    Why bother with Bloatware from Adobe any more.

    even if you don't use or don't like Edge as a regular browser it can read PDF's for you.

    In the dim and distant past Adobe reader was the standard - now it's junk / bloatware / adware / crapware and any other-ware you want to call it.

    If you really HAVE to have a separate application try foxit, Personally Edge works just fine --and I'm not a fan of EDGE for normal browsing either.

    Foxit website is doing what a lot are these days HIDING or obscuring the FREE version - but you can still get it from :

    Foxit Reader - Secure PDF Reader | Foxit Software

    Personally I'd just use EDGE these days if you don't need to edit pdf's.

    Cheers

    Thanks jimbo for your suggestion.

    However, I think there's more to it as it almost always runs slow until I boot up a second time.

    I think there's an underlying issue?

    Hi there
    @TenneR

    Adobe reader actually starts a few background services - IMO you'd be 100% better off simply uninstalling it and use alternatives.

    Adobe IMO has lost the plot with almost all their software --used to be a BIG photoshop fan - now find anything I want to do I can do with GIMP (Free) and you don't even need ADOBE flash for playing web content any more-- modern browsers including Firefox and IE11 can use HTML5 instead.

    Time to JUNK anything from Adobe these days.

    For example say you want to watch things from BBC

    BBC iPlayer Help - What is the HTML 5 Beta Trial?

    Cheers

    Junked it long time ago along with Norton stuff. Too many free and better alternatives. Even separate PDF reader is not needed any more.

    If you need a reader only, there's no need for 3rd party programs, Edge is quite capable of that. If you need to make a PDF you can do it from any text/graphic program and "Print to PDF" which is one of the basic printer drivers. Instead of printing on a printer it makes a .pdf file.

    Hi there

    especially @CountMike;

    Shows actually how good the PDF printer from Ms is .

    - I've got a couple of Opera tickets from Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London) -- not known usually for its innovation in I.T

    -- You simply use Print ticket box from their website from which the Ms Pdf printer will create a PDF file and then using Edge just Print it to your printer (or even better - some of these will print to PHONE app with a bar code so when you go to the gig you don't even need the printed ticket !!.

    When you arrive at the gig they just scan the phone with a bar code scanner -- OK Royal Opera House hasn't yet quite got that bit working but it will come.

    When Trains are actually working or Not on strike in UK I always get mobile e-tickets (m-tickets I think they call them) and it's so much better

    Virgin Trains, Cross country and Hull Trains (UK train companies) seem to have this whole process working just fine -- never a need to carry around a load of paper any more -- just wish the FARES were a bit cheaper without having to book about 10 YEARS !! in advance -- but that's for UK tax payers to sort out.

    cheers

    Haven't had chance for something like that but can do fine with Office although it can also save as PDF. Results are same.

    Use Sumatra PDF. It's extremely lightweight, secure, free and lightning fast.
