Windows 10 and free Excel editing not working

Hi I've bought an 8" tablet with Windows 10 because I read an article saying Excel mobile allows free editing if the tablet size is smaller than 10.1". However when I try to create a new document it says I have to buy an Office365 subscription. Am I doing something wrong?

Can you provide that article or a link to it? Editing is not the same as creating so there may be nothing wrong, just doesn't work as desired. Over a year ago my 8" tablet came with a 1-year subscription to Office 365 but I preferred the free LibreOffice rather than renewing a subscription-based program.

Yeah - this is a longstanding issue. Although website says it applies to Windows, it does not work in many cases. Apparently vendor of tablet has to ensure Windows identifies tablet as a small form device (I always though this was BS personally).

I have had same issue on 2 tablets and never resolved it - in simple terms it just does not work.

There are free Viewers for Microsoft Office products but they don't allow editing.

There is a free Office suite you can use and save work to OneDrive, if you have it enabled. Go here and try a test doc - Access Denied
