Win10 won't let me open Wordpad file if I don't create a free account

I saved a wordpad file today on my new pc. Now, if I try and open it again, a window inside wordpad is asking me to create an account for free office for 365 days. but I don't want to. How can I get around this and just view my wordpad file?

Well, that's one way to solve it, and Libre Office does a good job (I use it too), you can mark this thread as 'solved' now. The other way would be to reset the file associations back to using Wordpad.

If you were wondering why you got an advert for Office instead of opening in Wordpad, it seems to be a recent marketing ploy by Microsoft. The Windows that they supply to OEMs seems to have .doc/.docx files associated with Office by default instead of Wordpad.

You're the third person to ask about this that I know of. The first was at the beginning of December and my reply includes instructions for resetting Wordpad's associations: Wordpad files will not allow write permission.
